Morgan Blackham, a scout working on his Eagle project asked approval of a "Welcome to Farmington sign to be installed at the south approach to the city on Highway 89. He brought a sketch of the design which required approval by the Council. COUNCILMAN Don White made the motion to approve this sign and it was unanimously approved. The council approved construction bond agreements for various building projects throughout the city. THE COUNCIL approved recommendations of the Committee, dealing Problem-Resolutio- with the curb and gutter and sidewalk replacements where needed. The Weber Basin water funding was discussed, whether to pay for the water through the general property tax, or through the water revenues. He was selected from 200 applicants for this position and was hired in late March. HE WILL attend the Police Academy in Salt Lake City for 13 weeks, beginning May 5. training classes Davis County Mental Health is offering educational classes in Assertion Training for adult men and women beginning Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m. The two-hoclass will meet once a week for eight consecutive weeks. All classes will be held at the Davis County Mental Health Center in Bountiful at 470 E. Medical Drive. ASSERTION Training is deof the participant to appropriately exsigned to increase the ability press himself or herself and to communicate in a more direct and open way. This course helps people to and conacquire more trol over their lives, without denying the rights and feelings of others. Instruction and practice will be provided in such skills as saying no, coping with criticism, making self-respe- requests, expressing feelings, handling anger and anxiety, and giving and receiving compliments. The couple has three sons, Matthew, Marc and Clint and live in Centerville, kj Brown exhibits art Richard D. Brown of Farming-to- n is showing one of his water color paintings of the old Salt Air Resort. Mr. Browns water colors are being exhibited in the Farmington City Complex at 130 N. Main Street. THE PAINTINGS will hang in the city hall until the end of May. The public is invited to come in any week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to enjoy this style of paintings. Mr. Brown grew up in the Provo area, attended BYU for two years, then spent six months in the U.S. Army engineering and cook schools. After this he finished his B.A. degree in 1960. RICHARD married June Nybo of Salem, Utah and then continued his school to receive his masters degree in art from BYU, 1964, and was art director for BYU graphics department until 1966. He worked in various places and in 1970 started with the LDS Church magazines, serving as designer and senior designer. THE COUPLE has five children, Lisa, Lauri, Mark, Amy and Debbi and the family resides in Mr. Brown said, "Transparent water color has intrigued me from my earliest exposure to this medium. I was privileged to make several field painting excursions to Southern Utah with BYU teachers and students and that left an indelible impression and a love for landscape painting. I worked with Glen Turner, Alex Davis and Franz Johansen." RICHARD continued, "I enjoy painting ancient rusting and worn things, particularly working fi- gures and personalities into the designs, historic themes also interest me, and I like to paint animals and birds, as well as snow and winter subjects, they all make great water color paintings," he concluded. He has taken Best of the Show at the Utah State Fairs and many other awards at the Utah Water Color Society Shows. Also took awards in Los Angeles, Calif, and other shows in the various areas. HE ALSO enjoys out of door activities, fly fishing, fly tying, photography and other sports, also plays the harmonica. David Merrill is city art director and urges everyone to come in during April and May to enjoy this exhibit. kj AtUSU Local artists featured Students from Bountiful, Davis, Viewmont and Woods Cross high schools were among the 248 artists participating in the "High Art" workshops at Utah State Universihigh schools from ty. Forty-on- e Utah, Idaho and Wyoming were represented at the fifth annual event, sponsored by the department of art. ACCORDING to art department head Marion R. Hyde, the workshops are designed as a hands-o- n introduction to a variety of job opportunities and to the diversity of visual expression available in the field of art. All participants were able to reg- ister for three workshops conducted by USU art faculty. THE SIDES as well as the tops can be planted, creating an opportunity for using several varieties and colors of annual plants within one basket. In other words these types of baskets become living bouquets. On Thursday, May 8. For more information, call the Extension Office at 451-320- Remove studded tires The Utah Department of Transportation advises motorists that today is deadline for removal of studded snow tires. APRIL 15 is the last day that Utah motorists will he allowed to use studded snow tires this spring. Motorists may, of course, continue to use snow tires without metal studs. According to Utah state law, studded snow tiresmay be used only from Oct. 15 through April 15. In 1982 the deadline was permanently q.xtended from March 31 to April 15. MOTORISTS who drive with studded tires after the April 15 deadline are subject to a citation for a misdemeanor violation. |
