Since coming to Congress in 1981, 1 am very proud of the fact that this countrys economy has turned around. With President Reagans leadership and his support in Congress, we have accomplished a great deal and still hope to accomplish much more. In 1980, interest rates were 15.2 percent, inflation was 12.4 percent, and mortgage rates were 14 percent. Today we have 3.1 percent inflation, nine percent interest, 9.5 percent mortgage rates and 75 cent gasoline. REP. HANSEN was first elected to the United States Congress from Utahs First Congressional District in 1980, defeating Gunn McKay by 52 percent-4- 8 percent. The Congressmans committee on Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, the House Ethics Committee, and the House Post Office and Civil Service Committee. HE ADDED: I think people today are concerned, as am 1, with the well being of our homes, streets and safety of our neighbors and meeting the challenge of a critical education crisis and striving to overcome the challenge of an ever increasing problem of drug related crime. These problems need to be faced and solved and solutions need to be found within the frame work of considerate, conscie- nces budgeting. Stanley M. Smedley, a Republican, has announced his candidacy for the Utah House of Representatives in District 18, which includes northern Bountiful, West Bountiful, the east half of Centerville, and the southern tip of Farmington. MR. SMEDLEY is a lifetime resident of Bountiful, a graduate of Bountiful and the University of Utah where he received a Juris Doctor degree in 1967. He is a partner in the law firm of Bean and Smedley. Of his decision to seek legislative office, Mr. Smedley said, Many fine people have expressed concern for the direction taken by our representation in state government recently.
