Show DAVIS REFLEX JOURNAL, JULY 23, 1985 Get Voices Tuned For Fair Contest Reported Misstttg name is Starsky. Because the dog was abused by humans when she was a puppy, Starsky is cautious around people. Monday morning, July 8, Mr. and Mrs. Higgins were moving into a new home. Starsky was being moved from a car to a house. She was on a yellow rope leash when it started lightening and thundering. The bad weather made Starsky nervous and she bolted from the leash. This was in the vicinity of (iet those singing voices in shape for the Davis County Fairs Quartet Contest Friday, Aug. 9 at 9 p.m. WHETHER ITS barbershop, or folk, pop rock, theres a place for you on the program, says Bill Blimes, entertainment chairman for this years extravaganza at Davis High School. I he contests open to anyone 12 years of age and over. At least one member of competing groups must be a Davis County resident with forms due by applications-entr- y July 31. Theyre available from Kathy Skidmore, 2598 Country Oaks Drive, Layton, semi-classic- al Hill Field Road and Antelope Drive in Layton. BECAUSE Starsky has some physical handicaps, she seems to be ideal for the Pumkin Pride program of visiting the elderly in their homes and nursing homes. Starsky sits quietly while older people pet her and talk to her. Anyone with information about this animal can contact Marjie Hig2 or Deb at the Fruit gins at Heights Animal Shelter, dmg 546-442- 8. GROUPS CAN be accompanied or unaccompanied and either male, ladies or mixed, Mr. Blimes explains. Contestants must perform two numbers: the first can be of their own choice; the other will be piovided when the contest entry blank is obtained. Weather permitting, the contest w ill be held in the outdoor stage area. Groups will be judged on har- mony accuracy; balance and blend; stage presence and voice exQualified judges will pression. make the selections with an overall w inner to be chosen and presented with a trophy and cash award. In addition, first-thir- d place winners v, ill be selected from each category and prizes awarded.
