Surveys in emergency rooms indicate the actual number of injuries may be as much as a quarter higher, since many children are hurt in h incidents for which a police report is not filed. Fortunately, this threat to the health of our children can be minimized very easily and quickly, simply with the use of appropriate child car safety seats or seat belts. Accident studies have demonstrated that children who are restrained in a car seat have more than 90 percent less chance of being fat non-cras- ally injured and 78 percent less chance of being seriously injured in a crash. WITH THE recent passage of the child restraint law, which in part states that all children under age five must be properly restrained in a motor vehicle driven by their parent or legal guardian who is a resident of Utah, the Davis County Health Department is offering a free educational workshop and affordable rental rates on car seats to all interested residents of the county. The workshoi is offered every T uesday and Thursday from p.m. in Room 24, Davis County Courthouse, Farmington, and the rental rate for nine months is $15. A $10 refund is made available after nine months if the seat is returned in satisfactory condition.
