Dr. Vincent DeVita, Director of NG, notified Senator Orrin Hatch that the contract had been signed, and Hatch notified University officials. Necessary signatures from the University of Utah were affixed to the papers earlier in the week. The contract is for studies to assess the incidence of leukemia and thyroid disease as a result of radiation fallout in Utah. Hatch said study costs have been revised upward to a total contract award of $6,590,423, to be spent over five years. Budget for the first year of the 533-604- 0. Awarding the contract now, to get the study underway, is a great favor to Utah on the parts of Dr. DeVita at NCI and Sec. Richard Schweiker at Health and Human Services. They agree the work has been too long delayed. Succumbs Olive Melissa Priscott Jacobson, 84, died May 31. 1982 in the West Millard Hospital in Delta. She was born March 16, 1898 in Grandforks, North Dakota to Francis Henry and Winifred Jesse Walters Flack. She married Fred John Bettfreund on October 2, 1929 in Portland, Oregon. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. Mrs. Bettfreund is survived by her husand, Scipio; a son, John W. Bettfreund of Monroe; grandchildren; four brothers, Henry and Wilbur Flack, both of North California; Hollywood, Richard Flack, Fullerton, California; and Thomas Flack, Spokane, Washington.
