A NEW DEER BEING POACHED Deer are being poached too frequently in Southwestern Utah right now, according to Division of Wildlife Resources law enforcement specialist, Randal Peck. Deer are pretty easy targets this time of big bucks that are still in the rut and down in lower elevations Peck does, chasing said. "And we (the Division) are getting a lot of calls about dead deer and other illegal activities that indicate poaching. The enforcement officer mentioned at least 11 separate examples which occurred within the last two weeks, just around Iron County: a deer found near Newcastle completely intact except for its missing head, which had been removed; a doe found dead in Fiddlers Canyon; and a on Bumblebee gut-pil- e Mountain road, etc. HELP NEEDED Peck said the Division needs help. Mature Buck Killed In the most recent case, Officers Peck and David reHintze (Parowan) sponded to a tip provided by a concerned citizen who had learned that several people in the Beaver area had in their possession an illegally held deer. Peck and Hintze apprehended two persons with a mature buck (see photo). The two were arrested and taken before Justice of the Peace Rowland Yardley, acting in pro tern for the Ninth Circuit Court. A court date has been set for December 23, at which time a plea will be heard. Peck encouraged all concerned outdoorsmen and women to get involved in the effort to help conserve Utah's wildlife resources. "The Division of Wildlife Resources offers a reward for individuals who provide infor- mation which leads to the arrest and conviction of wildlife violators."
