"A plaee where shrubs, trees, and herbaeeous plants are eultnated for seien-lifieducational and purposes. Were you aware there is an Arboretum Guild in Utah? Headquarters are at the University of Utah. lours lor all age groups are conducted through the conservatory facihtv located at the arboretum center. Tree tours in the warmer e highlight rare of trees as well species as record sic trees. Educational programs include a varietv ol phases on the suhcct. I he volunteer program the Guild attracts many people with talents in putting them I he to use. Green Ihumbers assist in all phases of the arboretum and are appreciated for their efforts. is Golden Brunson on the Green Thumb program at the Territorial and Statehouse contributes to our own aroboretum preservation effort. Although our gardens are somewhat limited as to tree varieties, what vve do have ol Utah-Idah- o certainly make a significant contribution to the beauty of our park. One unique and significantly important tree in the park area is a Mulberry tree, planted especially for the purpose of sustaining the silk industry in Fillmore in pioneer times. The mul berry tree leaves supplied food for the delicate silk worms and from the peanut-siccocoon more than 1000 yards of fine silk thread is yielded and manufactured into delicate wearing apparel. The berries produced bv the mulberry tree are delightful to the taste and while some individuals may disagree, our fine feathered hold their annual conference around the tree as a variety of birds gather from far and near for the gourmet banquet. Indeed, the Mulberry tree is a significant contributor to the free enterprise and serves its purpose if it is onlv for the birds. d by Appointment A family portrait, with the holiday season approaching, is a great way to preserve and remember "the wav we were".
