I am sure all of us will wish we had each given more of our time to civic projects. We each have ideas of what is needed most in Our Town, but most of us think someone else should do all of the difficult tasks of getting the finances for building a new swimming pool, for instance. It takes long range planning and sacrifice on our part to finance any project, and most of all, it takes united effort. We could do many more worthwhile projects if we planned ahead to set aside a certain fund each year until we had most of the funds for completing our PFC Larry Parkinson borrowed on can interest the since money projects, more than double to original cost of the project. This Utah Community Progress Program is one of the very best contests we have ever entered since it plans ahead for each project that is needed in a community. Each family could work to help the other members of the family and everyone would be happier. This same couple also share their fruit and vegetables with all of their neighbors. The husband has a beautiful garden and enjoys raising an abundant crop with no weeds in his garden to sap the strength from the soil. We could all be as happy and as helpful as this lovely couple, if we just put forth a little more effort, as I know many such people but dare not mention names for fear of missing some of the very best examples. My own garden is not up to par. It was planted when we had such hot windy days and the seeds must have dried out as they did not come up. My tomatoes are lovely, we have had plenty of ripe ones for several weeks now and will have to begin to bottle them, but of course I raised the plants in the house where they were watered and given proper care. My nephew, Dwight Huntsman, has a beautiful garden and- supplies me with everything which we lack in our own garden. I used to think I had a good garden until he came to Fillmore to live. He is a professional gardener, or at least I haven't seen a more thrifty garden wherever I have visited. Let's have a Garden Tour and decide who is the best gardener in Fillmore. - Auction Features Items Handmade The word is out! Sunday the 17, many of the same racers made it. up to Ogden for the flat track races. This is a flat dirt track that loops and winds, but has no jumps or bumps as in motocross. By the end of the day there were a few bumps developed, and no wonder the way they slide their machines into a comer. This is considered a very safe version of racing and draws a fun crowd. The womens classes enjoy good participation, and the mini classes run down to Pee Wee for under 7 years old on The 50cc or smaller. bikes are modified to have no front brakes and smooth tires on the rear, and instead of braking to slow down they just slide their machines, in precision movements through the corners. It is exciting to watch, and seems so fun. Our racers all did well, and even though they havent had much experience in this field, they all picked it right up. and placed in the top places. Kevin Jones did especially well, with first, Kevin Bogue with third, Rob Fuller with 4th, Don Fuller with 4th in the 250 class and 3rd in the open class, putting in six rides with the experts, as well as riding the 15 lap sweep-stake- s for winners from all of the classes. Sam Taylor, Salt Lake mini expert racers, sponsored by R and R Services, has been running the all flat track circuit season, and enjoys high standing overall. He had some bike troubles and just missed the trophies this time. Thanks to the promoters, and to the support we receive from the community to make a name for our club. We know the racing world in the West watches for Sugarloafers, and of course Don is recognized by racers all over.
