Stutts, came in the front door and said,“Mary Belle, I want to talk to you.” I didn’t think anything was wrong. I was hurrying to finish so I could take the baby outside. It was May 17, 1963. J. C. told my mother and me to Her husband wasshot down in Communist North Korea and disappeared; for almost a year she has had no direct word—just fear and shattered hopes sit down. “I have some news for you,” he said. J. C. worked at the Florence Times & Tri-Cities Daily at the time and got newsbulletins almost as soon as they came over the wire. “That plane that was forced down in North Korea— that was Ben’s plane.” Ben is my husband. He is an Armyhelicopter pilot whose job at times is to inspect the demilita- rized zone around the armistice line which divides Communist North Korea and UN-defended South Korea. Now his plane was down and in unfriendly hands. J. C. kept telling us to keep SURE, most of us believe in God. But have you outgrown Him? Does He meen anything in your life? How do you picture Him? Is He just a remote Force...or sort of a fatherly but outdated Man Upstairs? Whois God, what is He... really? Or couldn’t you care less?
