THIS BELL A FOE TO SLEEP people waited to be sure of the time it indicated not ions long ago a bell was placed in the convent of inq sacred heart on convent heights at street it strikes the hours and the quarter hours with a melodious laum reverberating double stroke and the bell was wel corned by the residents along st nicholas avenue at the foot of the heights if ff one wished to know the time especially when in bed with no to timepiece near all ho he bad had to do wae was to wall wait a few minutes and the convent bell would tell him one resident of the vicinity unconsciously ly got into the habit of waiting for the bell to strike and he would do so whenever he awoke in the night aln if the bell struck once he rould speculate whether the time was a quarter past one two or three and be fore ho he realized it be he would be ancon selous aclo usty ly waiting for the bell to strike the hour this habit grew upon him so stead lly ily that he be often wad wag kept keg awake for hours waiting for the bell and counting ita its strokes recently be he related bis his experiences to some come neighbors and was surprised to find that seven ct c twelve persons were similarly effected f by the convent hell bell new york press
