Show ’ | i i IN SHORT, WE'RE BUILDING FOR THE LONG TERM We're not just building a new freeway - we're creating a better freeway. A freeway that will last. A freeway that is loaded with all the features that will make driving safer, faster, and just plain nicer for our growing population for a very long time to come. Want specifics? Here are just a few of the Y3K-like features and benefits you'll soon be enjoying: CommuterLink - a cutting-edge networkoftraffic signals, fiber optics, traffic sensors, closed-circuit television cameras, and electronic message signs will reduce traffic congestion and improve the response time of emergency vehicles. Reductions in vehicle emmissions will become reality thanks to HOV lanes that encourage car-pooling, fewer stops and starts on SPUIs (Single Point Urban Interchanges), and reduced idling time on less-congested freeways. Roadway, lighting and utility improvements at key interchangeswill benefit area residents. Seismic improvements through advanced engineering will make new freeway bridges safer and more resistant to earthquakes. Full-corridor lighting - a-state-of-the-art system - will look great and : ape es ensure optimal nighttimevisibility. Anaesthetics plan will result in more trees and vegetation along the 4 ‘ 5 entire 17-mile corridor. eh Y : : All in all, we're rebuilding much more than just the 17-mile section of I-15. When you = t take into accountall the freeway-to-freeway connections, cross-streets, bridges, and i , 5 adjacent interchanges we're reconstructing, we're talking about 47 miles of roadwork! Better surface street traffic will result from wider cross-streets and Y2K ISN'T THE EN D, interchange redesign. BUT YOU CAN SEE IT FROM HERE SURE IT's BEEN A PAIN " IN THE BUMPER eee a Se power and flooding problems. cae Major improvements to utility and drainage systemswill help eliminate Although westill have a ways to go, the I-15 Team is on track to deliver your state-of-the-art freeway next year - on time and on budget. be; : We're working hard to do exactly what you told us to do right from the #® very beginning of the project: get in, get it done, get out. While things will be looking up along the mainline I-15 corridoritself, tong Reconstruction project nearly two-thirds finished, we've already come through mostofit with more openings than closures scheduled for 2000, the reconstruction oe with flying colors. In fact, from this point on there will be more openings than closures of interchangeswill create some east-west driving challenges. This will along the reconstruction corridor. begin January 10 at 5300 South and continue in March with the 9000 South " By the endof this pivotalyear, the entire south end of the freeway - from interchange. Here's whatelse is slated for completion in 2000: ® 5300 South interchange © 9000 South interchange © On-ramps at 1300 South © 1-80 eastbound to I-15 northbound exchange * Railroad bridge underpass west of 10600 South © Freeway-to-freeway ramps at SR-201 (2100 South Freeway) © All I-215 ramps (except 1-215 westbound to I-15 northbound) We'll get through these four- to six-month closures the same way we've made , 4 it through every other reconstruction challenge: by paying attentionto traffic reports, allowing a little extra travel time, finding alternate routes, and drivingfriendly. And as . g f the 1-215 interchange to 10600 South - should be substantially complete. ura te usual, you'll be able to find up-to-the-minute information by calling the Reconstruction Hotline (1-888-INFO-I-15) and by visiting the Reconstruction Web site (www.I-15.com). We're building a freeway of the future for the future - one we can all be proud of and enjoy well into the new century. It may not be around for the Y3K celebration 1,000 years from now, but you can be sure it will serve us well for a long, long time to come, mes «but the freeway we're getting will be well worth it. And with the entire I-15 : 2 |
