TB CAN BE DORMANT OR ACTIVE @ TB INFECTION: Dormant TB is a condition in which the TB bacteria are alive but inactive. Skin tests show if you have been exposed to the bacteria. People with inactive TB do not show symptoms, dont feel sick andcan’t spread TB to others. A TB infection mayactivatelater inlife without preventive therapy. Mi TB DISEASE: Active TB is a diseasethat is spread from person to person through the air. The bacteria usually affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body. WE PROVIDE TUBERCULOSIS (TB) TESTING AND TREATMENT Everydaythe Salt Lake City-County Health Department's Bureau of Communicable Disease works to eliminate the spread of TB in our community. Ten public health nurses in our TB Control Program handle case referrals and providetesting. If active TB is diagnosed, we then provide case management and medication for six months or until the patient is no longer contagious. Wehavea state-of the-art clinic that allows us to providequality treatment while not compromising the health of our other public healthclients. Our TB clinic has a separate entrance and is equipped with a separateair flow system where the air is cleansed with ultraviolet rays TB isn't a disease of the past; still today, nearly 50 percent of those who contract TB will die if the infection goes untreated.
