Show WHAT commercial CLUB HAS DONE I 1 if the commercial club las has its friends and it has its enemies the latter class however are becoming fewer and fewer fener which makes the work of 0 the cub club easier from the fact that no person or organization can accomplish as much in the face of great opposition as can bo be accomplished when boosters boasters bo are lending help from all quarters for the benefit of the incredulous ones the ones who have felt that the commercial club is and has been a joke organized simply to gratify th the e pleasure and sporting propensities of nf a certain class of individuals an interview was sought and obtained with pres E W dunn in order to get at some of the real accomplishments of the organization during the year 1910 sir air dunn cheerfully gave the follow ing the arst question tackled by the club swit after the dawn of 1910 was that of getting the horticultural convention to come to brigham city in 1911 and in as much as the convention had never nere r been held outside of salt late lane city cily since the organization was inas effected the work ol of the committee appointed for that purpose promised to be strenuous that fact was more cl almly ti tily established after the corn coin cittee got go to 10 salt lake city and fouad a big from provo and utah county wo boring liing with all their might to swing the convention to provo the from our organization in conne connection connect edw io with the committee from the fruit growers association left nothing not liin undone but kept bigly at it boosting all the time for brigham city holding out special inducements du cements in the way of entertainments ete etc and pressing our claim to be the greatest fruit section in the in justly entitled to the lie convention conver tion and amply to take care ol of the delegates so the result was that erkid ErK iQ city was chosen by a handsome nj n ij city j alty with a promise to go to provo next year the benefits to 19 detie del i from having the state hor convention coven roven tion meet in brigham city are of such magnitude that we feel the victory is an important one one that will mean a great deal to this city and the great bear river valley very early in the year tile the matter of smudging the orchards for the preventing of the fruit buds from freezing was a subject that received earnest consideration but the proposition seemed almost impracticable for the leason that the freight rates on crude oil were so high as to make it prohibitive to think of using that as fuel in smudging many preferred ened coal 0 o oil which is much cheaper but the rates from california Cal fornia to utah made it more expensive than coal for the purpose of 0 getting a better rate on oil for the fruit growers a committee was appointed from the club to wait upon the railroad officials and get a reduction it possible the request was granted and reasonable rates established for the transportation of crude oil irom from california Cal fornia oil fields to brigham city and dear bear river valley the club has a standing committee on transportation tation and rates which ha done splendid work heretofore and stands ready at all tines to get in and labor for the interests of the community whenever he never the necessity demands another accomplishment which is of no small importance was the amalgamating ga of forces in the conducting of oc peach day in the past the club lies has perpetuated that big day against most adverse circumstances getting slammed and criticized criticised in many so that the proposition has been i most discouraging one early in a meeting was called to which he fruit growers or of this city and the commercial club of dear bear river valley were invited at that meeting the box elder commercial club made it clear to the other organizations that it ro no longer desired to handle peach day but would gladly assist any other organization that would take like hold of the matter the club has never desired to see sec peach day abolished but has always contended that it was one of the greatest factors in building up this community at the meeting re orrid to the plan was suggested that a committee from the box elder commercial club the BrIg barn city fruit growers Gro were association and the bear river valley commercial club b appointed to act as an executive committee for the conducting of peach day and that steps be taken to merge our big annual day into a two or three day county fair the plan was wag adopt on pago your four WHAT MT commercial CLUB HAS DONE continued from first page ed ad and it is needless tor for me to remind you how successful the celebration was last year this year the plan lor for a county fair will take more definite shape and we hope in time to see a full fledged institution which will give the people of the county an opportunity port unity to meet together once each year and show their produce get better acquainted and advertise their resources ot or the various sections of tile the county eaily in october sir air W 11 1 1 newcomb represent ln In the chicago rec ord herald met with the club and presented a proposition to advertise box elder county on a full page ot of some sunday edition of that great paper in a splendid utah section that was being solicited the page cost and the money was raised so that box elder county along with three other counties of the state was advertised on a lull full page of 0 the publication and on that page something was said about every industry within our borders the result was that thea the commercial club received letters by the score from eastern residents asking for further information regarding our resourceful county those letters have been answered and box elder county has been placed in its true light before thousands of people the club has a publicity committee at work whose purpose it is to follow follow up tip the good done by tile the page ad in the record herald and just as fast as funds can be collected pham and books will be printed profusely plus ilus grated which will be distributed and which will be the means of more fully advertising our resources and making people on the outside acquainted with the tact fact that box elder county is on the map last but by no means least our membership has been increased during tho the past twelve months fifty per cent we have room tor for every liv llop citizen in III the city on the roster of the commercial club and I 1 should certainly be pleased to see all of our representative businessmen fruit growers arid and citizens become members of the club in order that our Nor working king power might bo be made just that much stronger th the club is a power for good in the community it was organized for that purpose and there Is room tor for everybody irrespective of creed or politics we iva want to shoulder to shoulder for the up building of brigham Drig liam city and dox box elder county after reading tho the foregoing it cannot bo be truthfully said that the commercial club is 1 a I joko it has dono don things lings ti made good it if you please and it will avill continue to be heard from as tho years roll by pres duna D inn arid and manager john jj peirce have worked hard during tho the past year to make the organization one of industry arid and accomplishment how well they have succeeded is fully rehearsed licar sed in the interview given and for their efficient labors both were the unanimous choice of 0 tho the board of governors at a recent meeting to succeed themselves thellis elves for another year in order that they might bo be privileged to carry out some of the ideas which they have already inaugurated the commercial club is a good organization for the community it would be still better if all the representative senta tive citizens became active members |
