baa been increasing considerably in the last lew few days the weather is ia pleasant and lo iu fact taking the season through th rough since the opening of the exposition no serious complaint can be made against the quite a number of prominent prominent romi nent utah people have been beere here during the past week J judge adge smith of ogden accompanied by hiu his wife has hag devoted several days dayd to the fair he la Is well pleased with the fair in general and the utah exhibit in particular it is his alft opinion that utah has haa the finest mineral exhibit to be found on oil the worlds fair grounds ground and he is exceedingly well with the showing in this department the judge has gone to kentucky for or the purpose of visiting relatives anu and friends and to recuperate after his exertions at the pair fair hon HOD chas chae crane is here attending the meeting of the national commission he 14 i 1 4 alternate for hon P H lannon lannan mr crane has haa looked over the utah ex hibit ana says that he is more than pleased with the showing made he says ays that the utah wool exhibit compares favorably with that of any other state he Is especially proud of the agricultural exhibit made by utah he says that he be considers it Is do ing the territory a wonderful amount of good hon george Q cannon stopped stop off here on his return from england and spent amenta a tew few days examining the fair mr cannon has traveled a great deal deai as everyone knows and he be to is well able to judge of the character of an exposition like the worlds fair he pronounces the columbian exposition the finest show abow of the kind that the world has ever seen he remarked that he be had seen some pictures of the fair that reminded him more of the tales of fairy land than anything else but he 4 was of the opinion after seeing owing tab the exposition that the pictures wet e not overdrawn and that the display as a whole was waa hiie aae of the most beautiful bights the fertile brain or of man maim could conceive mr cannon was especially interested I 1 nall aall devices ata of a labor savi ng ing character he spent much time in the machinery and electric buildings and was especially interested in the developments oam onto made in electrical appliances during the post past few years and made a careful study of the several exhibits exhibit especially the devices for electric cooking purposes the simplicity of the application of electricity in the culinary department impressed him very much he also made a special study in the machinery hall ball of the pumping machinery and collected a great deal of information on this subject the exhibit of pumping engines etc made in machinery ball is without doubt the finest that hat has ever been made mr cannon was well pleased with the utah building he took great interest in the preparations being made for utah day and called on his old friend director general davis in the interest of the worlds fair Comin laston regarding the preparations preparation i now in progress for the celebration of utah day mr cannon met a number of his ol 01 I 1 friends all of whom were glad to see him mayor harrlson harrison of chicago wan especially glad to see him and greeted him most cordially hon heber J grant has paid a flying visit to the fair but has baa been so e buoy that he has not had time to sou see much of the exposition he takes great interest in the preparations for utah day and expects to be here on that occasion to take part in the exercises utah day promises now to be one ot of the great events of the abe exposition the fact act that the ra tabernacle bernacle choir in ie to take part in the exercises has bag created a general interest in this particular day throughout the entire eastern portion of the country the newspapers have frequently mentioned the fact that the choir is to be present and give a concert on that day and as this musical society to is so well known by reputation throughout the country the re result suit has been to awaken a general interest in utah day other things have also served to at tract attention to this particular day california will will celebrate their day on the ath of Sev september and the araud army of the republic has baa made preparations tor for a celebration which will also include that day all these things will tend to attract a large number cumbe r ul of people to chicago at that time and the exposition authorities are free to admit that no greater attraction can be be announced than that the abe great tabernacle choir of bale lake city la is to give a concert on that day and the director general has intimated that the exposition authorities will do everything in their power to moist assist the utah people in ILI their celebration as ai they believe abt of all the attractions announced for that day the choir will be the greatest governor west and staff together with a large number of citizens of utah are expected to be present on that day and to participate in the exercises the railroads will doubtless make special rates for that occasion even it if they do not make a particularly low rate lor the rema remainder inde r of the fair and as september will be one of th the e best beet months of the fair and the attendance at that time will be exceedingly cee large it seems to be specially fitting that utah should make a a great giest effort on that day as an norbid nothing a will serve to attract mare more attention to the territory than a creditable observance of the day especially sei get
