| Show THE LATE HORATIO B SCOVILLE I 1 have beer n requested quested to send a lew few kerne items of one mure more oi of our community builders who has recently passed away borato bardwell died on july has baa for a number of years been a great sufferer euf lerer from nervous debility he continued bogrow to grow worse and weaker until he became completely prostrated and his bis affa affi affliction lotion culminated in his demise deceased was the son of ebeneza robert scoville Bc oville and salley bailey bassett he was born nov 12 1832 at meredith delaware county new york when four years yearn old the family removed to vienna trumbull county ohio when he be was eighteen years old he became a member of the con gregat ional church with which body of worshippers wor shippers i apers he remained for several years when twenty two years of age he be came west as far as newton iowa thence he went to kansas kanem and from there to denver in 1868 1863 he be come came to utah and march he was baptized sed into the church of jesus christ of latter day saints at bait lake city on february 26 25 1866 1865 he was ordained an elder in the fall ot of the same year he came to ogden and engaged in the lumber business on oct 26 25 1867 he be was married to miss maria ale president heber C kimball performed the ceremony at salt bait lake city by her he had nine children seven sons song anil ancl two daughters on J u ne 4 1881 he was married to ann eliz elizibeth ibeth Mat matherson berson by whom he had bad four children making in all thirteen nine suns simi arc four daughters ton tenor or these survive three proceeded him blin to the spirit world in 1871 he was elected a member of the ogden oden city ouno council lj and served one term in 1875 he established the broom factory in oden which home industry has baa become so popular in 1882 he was elected a director of the second ecclesiastical ward corporation of the weber stake and served for several years in 1888 he was or dalbed a high priest which office be honored until the day of his bis death the funeral servi service cep were held on the alt in the second ward meeting house bouse in this city and were attended by the presidency of the stake the members of the high council number of bishops and a host of friends the opening prayer was made by elder joseph parry and addresses were delivered by elders wm newel Newell D M smart thos dozey doxey C F and bishop robert me quanie luanie the speakers were all acquainted quain ted with the deceased and each spoke in high terms of commendation 0 oi the career of elder scoville Bc oville as an honest mada man a true friend and faithful latter day saint the benediction was pronounced by elder FA labrown brown an Im immerse meise cortege followed the remains to the ogden cemetery the grave was dedicated by this writer yours truly JOSEPH HALL OGDEN CITY utah august and 2nd 2 ad 1893 |
