| Show JOHN R PARK LL D the utah university chronicle Chron tok in its issue for october pays this handsome and deserved tribute to the ex president of that pioneer territorial institution ution the university at the last comme commencement nef conferred upon dr park the honorary hou degree of doctor or of laws law the first of its kind which lass has ever been given by the university of utah according to the charter the regents are empowered to confer the degree on those who in addition to long and faithful service with the tho university are eminently qualified to receive it the reasons which prompted the regents to give the degree to dr park were fully stated by the chancellor on commencement jay day and need not be reiterated here bore the ex president took hold of the university away back in the latter part of the sixties and was connected with it continuously it if we except a brief sojourn in europe up to a year or two ago there always seemed to be an indissoluble bond of union between the doctor and the institution which be so ably fostered for so 0 o many years year and it is ie only with wor borus As of tenderness and affection that the alumni and old pupils speak of him we still have claims upon dr park and when we heard the oba chancellor nellor speak of the doctors doci ors devotion to the interests of the abe university it seemed a general matter of regret that he is not connect ed ad wl wi h b us ua now even jf if it be only to have h a name appear in the catalogue as a professor emeritus |
