McCoo neli of idaho idabo anu and elder eider john E dalley dailey principal of the oneida stake academy thedieo the disc urges and remarks of the brethren were of an excellent character the leading were education home industry cultivation of the soll soil and love jove for our tellow fellow man president parkinson Parkin sou reported the stake as being in a very fair condition much public wort wora had been done in the lasi baat year in the way ot new meeting houses bouses and other improvements the stake academy was not yet complete the work having been greatly retarded reta rued owing to the he depression 0 the tims timis felt that the people deserved great praise tor for their heir liberality and good works and encouraged them to continue faithful for days previous to ani an i dur reservoirs and establish a right to the water and not allow foreign to come in ij and do it instead he also advised the people to be seli sustaining and to encourage home recommended the cultivation of hope as an a means of employment which would bring cash returns tar our labor he was very much interested in the young people and took special paint pal off to meet with them and give good fatherly advice in all we were greatly pleased with him and he with our people especially was he pleased with the discourses of the brethren our conference was one among the choice one odem strong testimonies were borne and the spirit of god was made mad manifest throughout the oxford and Pu catello choirs furnished us with some very good singing for which we extend our thanks thu the weather was brigham city tabernacle october and 1898 there were present n the stand the first day elder eider lorentzo sn w of the council tha apostles Apost leu Beyt nour B young of the first council of the seventies the stake prest dency the high council and the bishops of the various wards JD in the make at the morning session president rudger clawson said eaid he be was pleased to witness so large a congregation as ii indicated that the people were ir interested te in 0 t e principles of the ibe gospel he believed all the people in the stake were comfortably provided for so BO tar far as the necessaries ol of life were concerned As a rule the people are tree free from debt and have but little trouble atut property matterese matter matte sHe reHe desired that big bia influence always and prance france at 2 p m the general church authorities ties and the authorities of the box elder stake were presented to he conference at ai d sustained by unanimous vote the statistical report of the stake was also read eider seymour B U young related a vision received by president woodruff about forty years ago regarding the opening anti and dedication of th abe salt laka temple lie he spoke at length h on the care of the poor advised every family to observe fast day and wake make their regular contributions for the poor oo on that day that all might be comfortably provided fur for elder lorenzo Ij orenzo snow said aid there was a wonderful wondern ua change in the me feelings ot the people of this nation in relation to the latte rd saints we may believe that all trouble has been beed removed from us yet we should I 1 leel eel more devoted to our religion for or it la Is possible that the dark clouds which seem eem to be dispersed will be gathered again we oame came here to engage the lesser priesthood elder eider lorenz saiu said the financial cial condition of the church was very at the present time this ahls had been brought about partly by so much of our property being es of the stake showing the favorable condition of each and the good being accomplished special mention was maae of the untiring energies and labors of the abe superintendents and teachers of the various performed in our temple to redeem our kendrel and friends also denounced tue practice and pernicious influences of infanticide tbt pr prevails in parts of the world and is sought to be introduced among the latter day saints he exhorted all to live in the light of the spirit of god to shun evil and practice the good conference was adjourned for three months to meet at Grants grantsville ville gospel has brought to the people at 2 p m counselor james W presented the general church and stake authorities all of whom were unanimously sustained as were also a number of elders who had been called as special missionaries to visit in this stake bishop of burks and bishop Bas mussen of levao levan reported their wards in the former ward many of the saints had bad been obliged to leave on account of being thrown out of employment and find homes in the settlements where living is cheaper both speakers stated that thai the people where striving to livo jive their religion elder john henry smith then delivered an excellent discourse upon the signs of the time limer and pointed out the course that should be taken by the latter day saints spoke of the present condition of the world and felt fell that the L lord rd is moving g to ish ieh his own purposes the speaker referred to the necessity of the becoming a self sustaining people that they may be an independent dependent lu and
