Bv Jane Bergen The word loyalty has ethical connotations; it is a term of lofty flavor, like faithfulness, steadfastness, allegiance, patriotism, and integrity. Loyalty has an object; it is about or toward something or someone, such as to a person, group, cause, or idea. Loyalty is an attitude. This trait is closely tied in with the need for belonging. People do not have loyalties to persons, institutions, or causes that do not in some way satisfy their material or emotional needs or help to carry out personal purposes. Performance beyond the call of duty is the best criterion of loyalty . . . whether it is to family, friends, country, organizations, ideals or principles. In handwriting the primary indication of loyalty is the use of round, black dots to complete the letters i and Roundness of dots used in punctuation is supportive evidence. The position of the i and j dots are immaterial in this connection but it does have significance with the respect to other traits. A dot placed to the left of the letter shows procrastination. A dot placed to the right of the short stem hints at impulsiveness. A dot that is close to the top of the stem shows attentiveness to detail and a good memory. A circle placed above the i or j stem does not have the strength of the round, black dot. Some employers will not hire people who place round circles above the small i small j or use them for periods at the end of a sentence. It takes too much time to draw circles. In considering the influence of loyalty in a given personality, there is a need to take into account a number of other behavior factors. For instance; is the person impulsive or objective? Will the person analyze carefully the objects of his loyalty? What part will a persons philosophical outlook play? What is the individuals social attitudes? The alliances of an impulsive individual will naturally be more emotionally-base- d than those of the objective one, and The duration of a loyalty may be usually more short-liveaffected by depth of feeling.
