Control Of Weevil Urged By J. Ravsten Summer Clearance Radio Speci tive. The best control, according to college entomologists, is to spray grain bins inside and out and the ground around the granaries with DDT mixed at the rate of one pound of 50 percent DDT to 10 gallons of water. This solution will kill any weevil entering the bin for several weeks following treatment. It is advisable that it be done at least 10 days prior to storage of grain so that all weevil in the area can be eliminated. ' There are other methods "of fumigating bins, but they are more expensive and require an airtight building and are somewhat dangerous to use. The above treatment when used at the proper time is the most effective remedy and the dry farm planning committee urges all farmers having weevil in their bins to use this method. Inasmuch as many farmers are now having their barns and many of their buildings sprayed for fly control, this would be an excellent time to have the grain bins sprayed also. Before spraying it is very important that all grain be removed from the bin and that the bins be swept clean. and up wet-tabl- e 8:30 P.
