Brady, Weber State College president, to the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation for its support of the Weber State Consortium of Community Improvement Councils, in a luncheon and awards ceremony Saturday night in the WSC Union Building. The Mott Foundation has donated $360,000 to the consortium over the last three years. A Community Improvment Council is made up of people from within a specific elementary school district who meet frequently to determine the needs of their neighborhoods and take the necessary positive action to see that those needs are satisfied. The experimental program has been dubbed Project SNAP, (Stimulating the Neighborhood Action Process.) Dr. Brady said the award was going to the Mott Foundation Because they are placing their priorities exactly where ' their priorities should be. Dr. Wayne Robbins, program officer for the Mott Foundation, which is headquartered in Flint, Mich., accepted the award on behalf of his employer. Its becoming very difficult for people to feel like they are a part of democracy, he said. The geography of our country makes it seem impossible to get involved in those things that affect our lives, he added. According to Dr. Robbins, People who were once elected to represent a handful of citizens are now being elected to represent thousands. He called the situation confusing and cumbersome. Through Project SNAP, he added, People are once again taking ownership of whats going on. He said People are taking responsibility and not just demanding rights, and are beginning to make some changes in their communities. The Weber State Consortium of Improvement Councils has an agreement with the Mott Foundation to continue project SNAP for at least another two years. 1974 MAZDA RX-- 4 SPORT COUPE new engine. 1495 CUTRUBUS' FREEWAY MAZDA 843 W.
