An unprecedented three Super Bowl titles, accomplished in just five years, have not been enough for the Pittsburg Steelers they want to make it four in six. And Sunday, on the frozen field of Three Rivers Stadium, they moved into position to make their dream come true with a 3 victory over the Central Division rival Houston Oilers that gave them the AFC title. Houstons gracious coach, Bum Phillips, echoed his comments after the game in eloquent manner. Were proud of ourselves, but were also proud of the Steelers, Phillips said. In a way, that will be us playing against the NFC in the Super Bowl. Were from the same conference, the same division and well be rooting for the Steelers in their next game. I dont think anybody can beat Pittsburg except Houston and we didnt do it today. If you guessed several former Roy athletes that are making it big on the college sports scene, youre more than correct. Jim McMahon and Fred Fernandes were just two of the honored stars who returned home to spend the Christmas vacation with their parents. McMahon just returned home from San Diego where his BYU teammates were defeated by Indiana in the second annual Holiday Bowl. The former Roy High great will certainly be back next season to battle for the No. 1 quarterback position, a position he held a good part of his sophomore season with the Cougars. McMahon opted to redshirt this past year, stepping aside to allow Marc Wilson to have the banner year he enjoyed. For the second straight year, Jim received a few souvenirs from the Holiday Bowl, including a football and a plaque with his picture on it.
