In future issues of the Utah Labor News we expect to treat this subject more thoroughly. YOU AND I GOVERNMENT .. (As told by Byrd Trego to M. Utah Labor News. ) I. Thompson, editor of the This country enjoys a democratic form of government. When we speak of government" we speak of you and me" and what we do in governing our Country, our State, our County or our City. We speak of how we spend the taxes which you and I pay for the orderly conduct of government. It is physically impossible for you and me, and the other citizens of this Country, or State, or County to meet daily on questions of government, or its administration. We elect citizens to make decisions and administer for us. Executive officers, so elected to high honor, assume definite duties and obligations to those whom they govern To you arid me. A clear understanding of that relationship is the basis of good and wise government. THE REASON FOR NOTICE" In corporations, executives must make reports to stockholders at definite periods. Such reports keep them posted on corporation administration and management. The principle applies to government. Under the term legal publication," government executives elected by you and . NEWS AND COMMENT POLITICAL OUTLOOK (Continued from Page 1) ness man hates to see a salesman coming who wails about the times. We all despise a fretter. Why? Because they depress us and keep us from thinking along lines that will yield best results. This being so why in the moments of reverie antagonize our own best impulses with thoughts of regret, complaint, hate or revenge ? anyThey never accomplished thing worth while. The man who stops annoying himself with thoughts that drag down is able to do twice the planning for growth, progress and attainment. , U MERRY CHRISTMAS tf HAPPY NEW YEAR X ZINIK SPORT- ING GOODS jk (Continued from page 7) Democrats will take place in the House. It may be that patronage and other weapons of the Administration will have the power to keep wanderers in line. It may also be that the voice of organized labor will be so strong and potent that legislators will not dare disobey. These reports are made to give us the necessary check on government administration. This fundamental in democratic government is known as "Serving Notice. History tells us that in European countries and early Amer ican colonies the town crier walked the streets ringing a bell be fore oral public announcements. Later, court bailiffs shouted "Notice" front the court house steps and porches of public buildings. Next printing was used. Notices were nailed at the town hall. Our lives became busier. The citizens eliminated the trouble of going to the town hall, or other public place, to read the public notices, and the newspaper became the most convenient medium for the printing of public notices in full. And you and I can sit at home and read in our newspaper the official announcements day by day, or week by week. Thus we keep ouyelves "on notice."
