| Show RAIDING RENEWED ANOTHER SPURT FOR prosecutions UNDER THE EDMUNDS LAW the renewal ot of the crusade against the mormons cormons Mor mons under the edmunds law in this district hits has been inaugurated with increased vigor as recent oc occurrences give evidence in commissioner mckays court at 4 yesterday no new witnesses were produced in the proceed proceedings ings against R J caffall of the twenty first ward and he be was accordingly dismissed on the charge of unlawful cohabitation in the case against thomas of the fifteenth ward the compala lioner gave his bis decision he considered the matter doubtful but gave the prosecution the benefit of ef ther the doubt by holding mr griggs to answer to the grand jury last evening two more arrests were made one at east mall creek and the other at granger mr was the vi victim c tim at the latter place and it being too late to secure bondsmen he be was sent to the penitentiary till this morning today to day the proceedings in commissioner mckays court commenced by calling the case against JAMES M FISHER of east mill creek four foar witnesses carl capson mrs sarah A chapman mrs edith fisher and mrs alvidis lydia A fisher were subpoenaed anaed the e defendant fent lant was arraigned on a complaint made by byaw D W rench beach last october charging him with unlawful cohabitation with mrs edith and mrs ellen fisher he pleaded not guilty built and stated through t his LIS attorney Mr moyle that he desired to waive examination mr varian remarked that he be care but would call mrs edith fisher who was sworn and testified she was married to the defendant 30 80 years ago he had no other wife at that time and she had never been divorced she declined to answer any further questions on the ground that she was the legal wife and was excused the defendant was then required to furnish 1500 bail add each of the witnesses were placed under bonds of the case of the united states vs R j TURPIN of granger was then called mr turpin pleaded not guilty to j a complaint made by E A franks charging him with unlawful cohabitation with mrs R J turpin and mrs maria decker turpin he desired to waive examination and this be being n permitted hall bail was fixed at 1500 for him and for each of the witnesses |
