Show A protective POLICY SOMETHING over a week agoa ago an article appeared in ia the NEWS over the caption land and liberty it treated upon the tremendous effort that was being made in most of the leading localities cali ties of the territory to work up a real estate boom the object for which the pioneers endured untold hardships in the arduous journey to this intermountain region and rendering it fit for human habitation was pointed out the purpose was to found a community nit in which the principles of truth ank and T f freedom would prevail and through whom they would be perpetuated to posterity the danger dafter of frustrating this noble design by the solid settlers selling out their homes to those whose sentiments and rims aims are antagonistic to the genius which inspired the founders of the commonwealth existing here was commented upon as the movement in relation to active and numerous transfers of real estate has a deep and broad significance in that connection but it is unnecessary here to repeat what has aar already eady been enunciated in connection with the real estate furore the city of ogden was named as an instance the allusion alln sion was wai doubtless unfortunate fortunAte us although it was based on the evidences of the th boom excitement which were exceedingly cee conspicuous together with statements from persons who claimed to be familiar with the facts to the effect that transfers of real estate were more or less numerous among some who are presumed to be in sympathy with the genius of this Tuter intermountain mountain community in the preservation er on of 0 political izal integrity and the maintenance of hose principles ples oi of liberty of which a mighty knighty effort is be ing ug made to dep deprive rivio us we are more than ban pleased to learn from a source that hat is undoubtedly correct that our information in rel relation stion to the position of ogden in respect to this subject was waa not correct this is all the more on account of the interest we have bave always felt in the enterprising citizens of that town which has at various times timea been shown through the th medium of these columns and which is by them doubt doubtless leps duly appreciated with our brethren there we ate are working in a noble cause the maintenance of truth and f freedom aug and with them we expect to go on in the good work shoulder to shoulder should r V with regard to the principle permeating the article on land and liberty we have not one jo jot t nor title to recede from because we 1 conceive it to be correct it if we make e mistakes in anything we would prefer it to be in at mat herslof of fact rather than principle because the former class of errors la Is much less injurious than the latter and much easier of correction in th this to instance the reference to was simply made by b y way of illustration the principle had no local but a getie general ral application exceptions are as a matter oi of course taken by interested parties to the policy we have advocated in rela tion to real estate transfers we have advised the people too to hold bold on to their homes we have no apology to offer for this advocacy of a sound economic and political policy this advice has reference only to latter day saints it is tor for them to take aitor it or do otherwise but ahn it involves their welfare it snail be
