Show QUARTERLY conference OF THE ST JOSEPH STAKE the quarterly conference bof ohe st joseph stake convened at the new meeting house at central march and 1887 there were present on the stand president layton and counselor W U D johnson also the stake and local authorities ties after af ter a few opening remarks by president layton verbal reports were given b by the following follow ug ki bishops shops thatcher Tb atcher was reported by bishop samuel claridge pima by counselor J A aberns blips graham by bishop PO P 0 Peter peterson soft central by bishop monroe curtis and elder D I 1 H 11 matthews reported the matthews branch of the pima flins ward st david not being represented the reports were favorable showing a desire among the people to do better also that there were prospects aae f good crops of small grain etc the president of the high priest quorum reported ther the high priests kres president ident john M moody the seventies 4 president james duke the eldora eldera elder seth alerton the home missionaries superintendent J W johnson the sunday schools the stake secretary wilford webb read the report of 0 the t he sunday schools all of which were encouraging especially that of the sup sunday day schools which does credit to the stake showing fi a two thirds average attendance the remainder of the day was occupied by presidents layton and johnson who made remarks encouraging operation cooperation co ftp storing rge of grain beautifying aur our homes etc the lo 10 assembly p er was dismissed by bishop john oh 1 walker alker sunday 10 a m after the usual opening exercises bishop claridge and elder john johnm M moody spoke of the united order the restoration ot of the gospel etc president layton endorsed the remarks of the previous speakers and felt that the time had bomb for the peo pie to be wore more united his remarks wei wait e replete with valuable I 1 instruction ast ruction dismissed by elder W 0 moody 2 p pm m alter after the sacrament had bad been administered the clerk read the statistical reports and presented the general and local authorities which were unanimously sustained elder W william illiam packer addressed the congregation on the word of wisdom the boling people the theouties duties iea mud and obligations we owe to our parents etc i presidents layton and johnson then made a few closing remarks indicating that they were welt well pleased with the reports and urging the necessity of always being prompt in getting our reports on antime onti time aie Conference then adjourned sine die with benediction by patriarch william mcbride s JOB EAST clerk cleric 9 |
