Show Sun Advocate, Price, Utah 5B Tuesday, May 4, 1993 Letters to the editor Wake up! Pets Editor: I would just like to Bay that it was good to see all of the residents of the community of Helper band together and take a stand on the issue of whether the United States postal system should close the post office. I am also disappointed in the residents of the community of Helper, and elsewhere, because they do not take such an active stand on other issues such as abortion, gun control and taxes. There is just one thing I could say to small communities across America, and that is wake up, America, before you are railroaded by the federal government. Dwayne T. Rowland ignore. They need alot of love depend and attention, just like people, and the love they give back is on owners Editor: I feel obligated to write this letter because I have had my fill of watching poor animala suffer at the hands of ignorant, uncaring people who bring them into their home for a short while, then quit caring about them all too soon, leaving them to roam neighborhoods, looking for food and someone to care about them. Its the saddest thing Ive ever seen, and I think its about time someone said something to the general public to remind them that animals are a big responsibility. So if youre not up to being a responsible pet owner, dont just get one to put in your back yard and forget about and tenfold! Please, please, take good d care of your friend on you! they depend four-legge- Laurie Yelonek Worlds policemen Editor: Has there been an effort made to consult our citizens about our feelings concerning the governments intention to make the United States the policemen for the world, or social workers for that matter? The world seems content to label us the only remaining super power." With all the conflict and unrest in the world, we may be assuming a terrifying responsibility if we are not carefiil. When will we learn that it no good to enter another countrys civil war or to take sides in a religious war? If we left people alone, their conflicts would remain small. But taking sides means other countries will find it necessary to jump in and soon, a small religious war becomes a nationalistic world war. The size of the Arlington National Cemetery and other similar cemeteries for our young men should constantly warn us and advise us to mind our own business. War would soon be a past peace, even though we use it. does dont Eugene J. Faux Acknowledges cartoonist Editor: Political cartoonists often make fun of what others perceive as a serious andor an emotional issue. We often find them amusing when they portray other causes or individuals in unflattering terms. A sense of humor is necessary when it is you or your cause that is the subject of the relic if our elected officials were required to lead the troops in the trenches. Since that is ail unlikely possibility, we should not be too quick to cartoon. I have been a player or the focal point of several political cartoons developed by Mr. Troy Madsen. At times, the initial response was hurt or anger, evolving into laughter. I have enjoyed his political comments and creativity. Mr. Madsen is studentbody president at Carbon High School, a first place winner in the recent Sterling Scholar competition, a gifted writer, a talented artist and political cartoonist for the Sun Advocate. I feel the need to acknowledge his great talent and intellectual endeavors. Dr. Robert N. Hanson Carbon County School District superintendent SPECIAL OLYMPICS destroy our war weapons.
