Show 9 Gunnison Valley News Salina Sun March 26, 2003 On March 18, 2003, Salina Elemen- tary student body showed their support for the local 222nd with a flag flying, banner waving, yellow ribbon send-off. Banners were displayed by each classroom as the buses carrying the troops were escorted past the school. We are proud of our troops. Members of the Utah National Guard Unit 222 began service Tuesday, March 18th, and citizens of all ages out to show their support for the troops as they were escorted on their way by the Salina City police. Stu- dents from the North Sevier schools lined the streets with posters, banners, flags, and yellow ribbons, and Lee song "Proud to be an American" spoke what was in the hearts of all well wishers. In a formal show of patriotism, Mayor Marilyn Ander- son and the city council members have passed a resolu- tion proclaiming Salina City's Support of the Utah Na- tional Guard Unit 222. The resolution, signed by the mayor and council members, states, "WHERAS, the comthe and Salina of appreciates strongly supports munity services the Utah National Guard and their families an; making to defend and protect the United States of America. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED Vs BY T1 IE COUNCIL OF SALINA CITY, UTAI I, AS FOL-the- ir LOWS: State of Support: Salina City proclaims their port of the soldiers of the Field Artilery, Battery A 222nd sup-turn- ed "Triple Deuce" of the Utah National Guard and their families, and recognizes their great sacrifices. This and other expressions of support from the community has been a tremendous strength for many affected by this deployment, According to one local guardsman, "The support this V-H K i immedi-Greenwood- area has given us has been unbelievable, and we're thankful for it.
