Over the past five years, 17 people have died during this holiday period. The holiday officially begins at 6 p.m. Friday, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 17. Excess speed is the number one factor associated with traffic deaths. The Utah Safety Council, offers motorists the following safe driving tips: Allow plenty of travel time, and do not speed, even if you are behind schedule. Wear your safety belt, and fasten children into approved child safety seats. Have your vehicle inspected and tuned before long trips. Keep a safe following distance, use the rule. During bad weather, slow down, turn on your headlights and increase your follow"two-secon- ing distance. To fight fatigue on long trips, stop evminutes to rest, eat light meals, stretch 90 ery and rotate drivers. If you travel alone and feel sleepy, stop and get rest. The Utah Safety Council encourages everyone to have a safe holiday. Committee members studied student enrollment projections and classroom needs, listened to public comment at public hearings in four attendance areas, and presented their recommendations May 9 at a special Ten-Ye- ar meeting with the Sevier School District Board of Education at the Salina Elementary School. A possible design is a U shape for the new North Sevier Middle School Facility with one wing housing fifth and sixth grade students and the other housing seventh and eighth grade students. The two groups could be separated. The fifth grade wing would create more classroom space at Salina Elementary School, explained Amber Curtis, committee member from Aurora. Construction of the building is listed in 1998 on the flow chart. The old shop on the North Sevier Middle School campus needs to be removed, added Curtis. Other recommendations in the North Sevier attendance area are a preschool, expansion of the Salina Elementary School , campus, installation of a portable classroom unit and improvements to the multi-purpo- se room. A new elementary school site may need to be acquired if enrollment continues to increase, she said. Needs at the North Sevier High School are expansion of parking and the track and replacement of the roof. It's intended the recommendations made in the master plan be used as a guideline and the implemention of individual recommendations be made only after careful ten-ye- ar study at each stage of development, explained Samuel D. Ware, committee chairman. Its impossible to predict exactly what will happen in the future, but the committee made decisions based on projected enrollment figures available at the present time, Ware continued. Recommendations are also charted by year to help the board in the decision-makin- g process. District Accountant Patrick Wilson explained the building program flow charts to board members. Each board member and committee member received a master plan book and a set of minutes of the committee meetings and public hearings.
