The hybrid trout should be more resistant to whirling disease than a rainbow trout which were used in the Trout w ill soon be sw imming again in Forsyth Reservoir and Mill Meadow reservoir. These two popular fishing spots in Sevier County-havbeen without trout since 1992 when they were treated with roten-on- e. Trout were removed from much of the low er Fremont River drainage at that time as part of a program to limit the spread of whirling disease. Part of the plan to combat the disease was to keep infected waters free of trout for a period of at least three years in an effort to break the life cycle of the parasite that causes the disease. The next step vv ill be to treat the reservoirs once again with roten-on- e. then restock them with trout. The rotenone treatment which is scheduled for the first week in No-- v ember, is intended to remove vv arm and cool-watgamefish and forage fish. These fish were stocked in the two reservoirs during the "troutless" phase of the program to prey on any trout which might have remained in the drainage and to provide some past. The reservoirs will be closed to fishing in 1996 in order for the trout to reach a catchable size. Anglers can expect some good fishing again in Mill Meadow and Forsyth in 1 997. The Div ision of Wildlife Resources is continuing to assess the impacts of whirling disease and test methods of managing trout in infected areas. Anglers can help to limit the spread of the disease. Spores of the vv hiding disease parasite are present in the mud in infected areas and can be transported by muddy s, boat trailers, etc. Cleaning the mud from equipment before moving between fishing spots will help. The spores are also present in the skeletons of infected trout. The carcasses or heads of trout, especially from infectedareas. should not be disposed near any w ater source. hip-boot- on ii no HO o n n on nu u H U II oonoo er sportfishing. While Central Utah coal reserves will be capable of yielding coal for the next few decades, at the present rate of coal production, some Utah coal operators have correctly chosen to augment the diminishing Central Utah coal reserves with those of Southern Utah. According to the 1994 Annual Rev icw and Forecast of Utah Coal Production and Distribution prepared by the Department of Natural Resources' Office of Energy and Resource Planning, in 1995. both production and distribution of Utah coal will surpass the 25 million ton mark. Electric utility consumption of Utah coal in the state increased to 12.3 million tons and will fluctuate around 12 million tons for the remainder of this decade. Electric utility consumption of Utah coal by other states increased by 24 percent in 1994 and will increase by more than 50 percent in 1995. The Clean Air Act Amendment of 1990 which went into effect January 1. electric utilities in 1995. was responsible for greater interest by Utah coal, but more important that w as the high lev el of productivity achieved by Utah coal operators vv hich. in turn, lowered the price of Utah coal. For the 12th consecutive year, the real price of Utah coal went down.
