Smith, Utah Highway Patrol When we think about driving under the influence, the first thing to come to mind is alcohol - the guy who only had two beers who is all over the road. But what are we really talking about? There are many ways in which a person can be under the influence. How about alcohol and drugs or just drugs? The combination of drugs and alcohol can really effect your driving ability. Lets talk about the everyday things that we do that we dont think about. Lets say you are painting a room that is not very well ventilated. You have been smelling paint fumes all day and have a headache. Your work is done and now its time to go home. You start driving and wonder whats wrong with your steering - your vehicle is all over the road. Now theres an officer trying to stop you and you cant understand why. You were going really slow! Now, lets take it another step further. You have been to the doctor for a minor problem and he gave you a prescription to get filled. When getting it filled, the pharmacist advises you that the medication can cause drowsiness or shouldnt be used in conjunction with other medication.
