Would you like to show your pride in yourself and in your town? By joining forces, church and civic groups are here to give you an opportunity to do so, by contributing your time and effort, through the month ofMay, to change our town from "Slouchy Salina" to "Shiny Salina". The town has been mapped into four quadrants, each with a "chief honcho", as shown in the map. Help is desperately needed to clean up Main Street, the two cemeteries and the City Park. The weeds along all all of the roads leading into town need to be mowed. The very large job can be done by volunteers putting their shoulders to the wheel and pushing together. You are urged to call the 'chief honcho" of your quadrant or T rudy or Gwen at the city offices to volunteer your time, (529-7304- )) muscle and equipment. Dumpsters will be located at the rodeo grounds and the former Midway Diesel building area, to accept your small trash. As scheduled, city trucks will pick up larger trash, such as small branches from pruning. It will be necessary for you to check with the county landfill personnel (896-753- 6 or concerning disposal of tires, batteries, and household appliances. Clean up the lot where you live, offer help to neighbors and volunteer to help the city and church groups make Salina a town of 'Pride", 896-772- Shelly Burr Bonnie Johnson Dawn Dahlsrud Mario Okerlund Elizabeth Ekersley 2) Area Emergency Medical Services recognized for dedication to community Sevier County Emergency Medical Services is joining EMS providers nationw ide in encouraging schools, businesses and community groups to set aside National Emer1995, as a gency Medical Services Week, May time to honor those w ho are ready to provide care at anytime ... the local EMS team. 14-2- 0, EMS teams include dispatchers, paramedics, firefighters, emergency physicians, nurses, and more. These people jump anytime they are called, day or night, any day of the year; no matter what they are doing. Whether they are at home or out to dinner, at a movie or on the job, when the call comes in they are off to render assistance. EMS providers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Career and volunteer EMS producers play a significant role in saving lives and property. To assist local residents and organization in honoring these special citizens and to learn how to access them, Sevier County EMTs w ill host numerous activities during the week. Tuesday, May 16, North Sevier Ambulance crews will be at the Salina Elementary School. Tours of the ambulance will be given and EMS coloring booksvill be given to Kindergartners through third graders. Poster contest winners, from grades four and five, will be announced. Cash prizes will be given. First place gets $25, second earns $15 and third receives $10. Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. members of the EMTs will be on Open Mike on KSVC (980 AM). Thursday. May 18, a blood pressure clinic will be given at the Senior Citizens Center. Saturday, starting at 10 a m., the public is invited to a mock automobile accident and extrication demonstration in the center of Salina. the parking lot at the fourway stop. EMT and fire department crews will be demonstrating techniques in extraction and first aid. A opportunity for the public to get their blood pressure taken, free of charge, will also be part of the Saturday agenda. Talent as well as beauty will be showcased at the event. 1 Amber Trapp in PTA forming new NSMS council North Sevier Middle School PTA is announcing the formation of the North Sevier Middle School Improvement Council. All concerned parents are invited to join. The council is being formed to address several concerns expressed by parents and faculty involv ing the school. The PTA feels by involving parents, students, faculty and administration we can meet these needs. NSMSs PTA Presidency would like the council to consider the following possible goals: - A new middle school building. - Parental involvement in the school through a volunteer program. - Promoting student and faculty pride.
