Show Standard-Examin- Obituaries er Martha Jean Jessop John (Jack) P Ray Santoro Valentine Gilbert Ritter WASHINGTON TERRACE - Valentine Gardiner Gilbert Ritter 81 died Thursday May 4 2000 at McKay-De- e Hospital She was bom February 14 1919 in Burley Idaho the youngest of seven children to John and Lillian Moms Gardiner Following her father's death her mother married George McBride in Ogden My best friend and dear father John P Ray age 73 passed away peacefully April 29 2000 at home with his family in Salt Lake City Utah Bom January 31 1927 in Layton Utah the son to Parley and Mary Ella Love Ray In 1993 John returned to Salt Lake City to be with his daughter Christine grandson Jon granddaughter Kenda n and Michael We had seven wonderful years living loving and learning together His greatest happiness was being with his greatgrandson Michael John spent his early years with his wife and daughter in California studying dance at the American School of Dance While there he was an extra in four movies In 1953 he moved to New York City to dance with Luca Chase at the American Ballet Theater From that moment on his career extended to the bright lights of Broadway He danced in the chorus of Silk Stockings Ruben Ruben Boy Friend Little Abner Destry Rides Again and Irma La Duce During the years of 1 963 to 1 993 he established a wonderful life for himself family and friends in Bucks County PA He managed his own restaurant and worked for designer Paul Evans where he became one of the best furniture finish men in the trade He wanted it to be said that "It s been a full and wonderful life” John is survived by daughter Christine Ray Connors grandson Jon (Julee) Connors of Phoenix AZ granddaughter Kenda Connors and Michael Katlin and Amelia Ray Connors one brother Leon Ray (Karen) two sisters Afton Adams (Jay) and Mane Nalder extended family Ray Stickler Richie Boyer and Annie Preceded in death by his parents and long time companion Mel Davidson The Connor's family would like to thank family friends and neighbors for all their love and support At John's request a remembrance will be held at a later date and in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to he John Huntsman Cancer Institute Rocky Mountain Hospice or the local homeless shelter Directors: Holbrook Mortuary - PS from Dad - “I'lf meet you on a Big White Cloud one day with wings and pne earring!" Peter Ivan Frost “ Peter Ivan Frost died at the age of 92 on Friday May 5 2000 He was bom in Benson Ward Utah bn January 1 1 908 to Anders Peter and Rebecca Hansine Jorgensen Shortly after the family moved to Salt Lake City for about four years He then moved to Oakley with his parents where he had some adventures that he told his children and grandchildren of for years He went with his father on trips to the Uintah Basin to take and bring back the cattle from pasture He also accompanied him on Raleigh sales trips on a horse drawn wagon He met Edith Naomi Hamilton while he was a studentschool bus driver and when she caused problems he had her sit by him to keep the peace They enjoyed that close contact so much that they married on June 27 1929 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Prior to their marriage he attended Utah State Agricultural College majoring in dairy science He followed his professor to Weber Central Dairy where he worked for about 1 7 years Ivan and Edith pruchased a small grocery store at 40th and Adams in South Ogden where they worked together for 24 years They lived by their motto “Where Friends Meet" and enjoyed the experience of meeting with their customers and being part of their lives He and Edith worked as ordinance workers for 12 years being part of the first group to open the Ogden Temple He has served in the bishopric as a gospel doctrine teacher finance clerk and many positions in the 14thward Edith died March 9 1989 He was a valiant member of the LDS Church a gentle and loving husband father grandfather and friend who had an Infectious sense of humor which touched all who knew him His loyalties lay with his family church community and country He is survived by three sons and two daughters Uana Lu and Bob Tucker of Washington Terrace Ray and Barbara Frost of Bear River City Brent and Shirley Frost of South Ogden Carolyn and Charles Evans of Bountiful and Norm and Sue Frost of Ogden Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and 72 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren Also one sister Vesta Boyer He was preceded in death by five sisters and one brother and one great granddaughter He enjoyed his many friends during his Wyoming Ogden Utah For a period of two years he studied art at the California School of Fine Art in San Francisco He volunteered for service in the L US Navy at the outbreak of World War II On December 30 1951 he married Frances E Schwitzer of Ogden in Las Vegas Nevada During their early years of marriage Clare and Fran taught ballroom dancing and coached Junior League Bowling In his younger years he loved to go fishing with his friends and family For many years he spent time at Blacksmiths Fork beating the water to a froth with his fly line and spinning lures He was an outdoorsman and spent a good deal of his life in the mountains hunting and camping as well After his retirement from HAFB in 1980 he became a member of the Ogden Palette Club He painted daily up to only a year before his death The deterioration of his eyes and the loss of touch in his fingers ended his long love of oil painting His paintings are displayed from East Coat to the West Coast His full time job at the Presidents recommendation She married Melvin S Gilbert on August 30 1 940 and they were blessed with four boys Mack Tom Van and Rex Melvin's best fnend was Max (Ruth) Ritter who had four children Fred Linda Joyce and Melvin Their families spent a lot of time together camping and taking trips together Both Valentine and Max lost their spouses when Melvin died of massive heart failure and Ruth collapsed while reporting about their mission to Canada Valentine and Max were married on May 5 1 983 They moved to Santa Clara in 1993 and later to St George Valentine was a member of the Red Cliff 1st LDS Ward in St George She enjoyed serving in many different callings and especially enjoyed serving in the Ward Library She had a strong testimony of the Gospel and especially Priesthood blessings At the time of her death she was a member of the Washington Terrace 6th Ward She enjoyed crocheting reading crafts and cutting her lawn Valentine was a lady who loved everyone
