Show ELDER BUSH MAhS DEATH Col colonia onla juarez mey mex nov 12 1897 I 1 enclose extracts from a letter just received from my son nepha martineau of monticello wayne county ky relative to the last illness and death of elder bushman as it may be of interest to his personal friends should you deem it worthy of tion JAMES H MARTINEA TJ fawbush Paw bush nov 3 1897 dear father mother and all weare vy 0 have been called upon to part baxt with one of our number elder bushman v passed peacefully anav sunday 00 as 31 1897 at a m of typhoid feve fevers he had been in the field nearly a y els and was hale and hearty until sud sua denly taken away he was sick twenty three days and gradually lot go g o 3 worse from day to day I 1 was in al I 1 bany some forty miles away travel 1 t ing among the elders when we re calved a telegram that he was danger bously ill leaving albany for his bed beda side at 1030 a m on foot we pressed on passing many houses and all at once felt to go up to a certain house and there find a dinner which we did and were asked to pax partake take we alwn pressed forward turning aside at to have prayer determined not to stop until we reached our sick brother at sunset we came to the Cumber landl river with no money to pay the ferryman to whom we told our conditto conditions and asked him to ferry us over and gi with us to the owner of the boat w hi 0 he did the owner of the boat said p was all right and gave us a good w supper we then passed out inton into 0 lonely road through the timber j it was now dark aro after a lettla time we had prayers asking the LO us miles away through an unknown re ramt and country we lost our way in tt darkness and felt impressed not to ga J any farther in that direction and so regained our true course about f we called at a house to in our way and were given a good lunette and a warm fire the night being chilly and the man of the house kindly vol A leered to guide us to elder bushman a bedside arriving there we found el eld david jones feeling poorly and elfed bushman very low with fever r he be afta Z been sick three weeks we ad to him and then lay down to reat motu being very tired and having done tche him all we could but he apa at very bad night having a cold s w and constantly sinking I 1 w waa ing with him and at 5 I 1 aw awo elder martin and we admi administered estered 1 him again and he quietly passed away I 1 while we were kneeling by him he never uttered a word while he was F sick and asked if he be wanted to go home he be always answered no myself and elder bider jones laid him out while elder bider martin went to procure a team and wagon to take his body to the railroad we were told to get him away from the house as soon as possible the people not being very friendly and at we left going to somerset thirty alve miles distant and arrived there at 3 am we telegraphed to his home and to chattanooga and elder martin accompanied his remains to cincinnati it was very sad to part with one noble and true to his duty he was so good worker and I 1 feel that he has a onne to continue his work on the other gone o ade side NEPHI MARTINEAU |
