| Show IN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS KAUAI conference feb irth at our last conference october ath 1896 which was held at headquarters at laie oahu bahu we were appointed to this island kauai we left laie october lath for our field of labor and came to the beautiful city of honolulu on oil noise holse back tuesday irth at 5 p m we boarded the steamer mikahala and fifteen minutes later were being tossed by the waves after a pleasant voyage we landed at landing on the morning of the irth at 4 we were distant from honolulu about boco miles we were not long in fi finding n di M friends who gave us our breakfast ang and asked us to leave our luggage president of the eulaia branch his bia which is located about faur miles inland on learning that we had arrived was soon down with some horses and took us to his home where we were made as comfortable as possible we were soon out among the people announcing noun cing to them that we were to meet at that branch the following sunday when we had a good turnout and baptized one person since that time we have made a circuit of the island meeting at each branch there being eig eighteen h teen some we have visited twice we also held meetings wherever we could get ft a crowd together which is very hard to do the most of the people being at work for the plantations except oa sundays therefore it makes it a litot ditth bobill work to hold meetings on any other day ay but we have been quite successful 1 at some places during the week in getting the statistical report ot of this isla island na I 1 find 53 elders 14 priests 21 teachers I 1 18 8 deacons a total of priesthood lay jay members mem beis male female children under 8 years total baptism ot of new members in adults male 20 female 21 children dren 7 children blessed 27 excommunication muni cation male 2 female 1 i I deaths adults male 14 female 14 children 2 births balls male 1 13 female 6 rebaptism 5 ainze since arriving on this asand is and in in october last there have been 33 baptized and 18 8 children blessed we have also ordained 8 to the priesthood and reorganized organized te ft two branches W we have had our faith strengthened many times by seeing the sick made hole through their faith and our administering to them As we like the apostles of old have received the authority for which we are very thankful we have much cause to rejoice in our tabors being well cared for the people being beine pleased to have us call on them and explain ti e message which we bear and teach them concerning the glorious tenths ot of the gospel of life we e meet with very little opposition we feel to thank god tor for choosing us as ambassadors ass adors to labor among this peo apte rte and warn them ol of the judgments that mat sarf are about a to overwhelm the w wicked N T HATCH WM D HILL |
