Show UTAH WOMEN IN washington the midland monthly tor or june in the second paper by juliette M W babbitt on some csome statesmen State amena la wives in washington pays paya considerable attention to utah women at the national capital there are portraits of mrs arthur brown and mrs C E B allen alien with the following account of the wives of the three gentlemen who rep resent the now new state in Con congress greeb the wife of senator arthur brown of utah our newest state to ia a native of kalamazoo michigan she and her husband born but a tow few miles apart almost grew ew 1 I up together she was wai miss isabel E cameron m eron youngest daughter of mr alexander cameron of scotch parentage and an early settler of michigan on her mothers side she comes from revolutionary b and mayflower stock about sixteen years ago she went with her husband to salt lake where they have ever since ince occupied a fine social position their handsome hand gome home being qui quite famous fol foi the number of guests of iii national r 0 al aromi romi nence who have been entertained in it mrs brown is of pleasing appearance dark haired and dark eyed is a good talker and has excell excellent enli taste tasie in dress while taking a deep interest in politics tor for her husbands sake she ehe is not exactly an ad advocate of comans womans suffrage but when incorporated in the states coned cogshe tion she accepted the situation and the chairmanship chairmanship chairman shi p of the branch of the republican committee to form clubs devoted to the training of women in parliamentary lia law etc and gave many weeks of her time to it she Is ia much more interested however in the orphans home and day nursery of which she is a director and one of the founders this fine charity is worked for by people of the nume creeds of the city senator and mrs brown have one child Max a bright boy of much promise about thirteen years old Rev Olympia brown the famous suffrage orator is a bister of the senator the wife of the other senator from utah frank cannon was miss martha brown of ogden her present home she is tall slight and fair with blue eyes and very quiet manners and is devoted to her husband and children there are three daughters and one son all bat one are at school at home thus far she has taken little part in society mrs clarence E allen alien wife of only member of congress was miss corinne tuckerman daughter of prof jacob tuckerman a prominent educator of ohio she was educated at mt holyoke and smiths college paying considerable sid Mid erable attention to music she is rather pa plump u mp and of medium height has dark hair and eyes eves a sweet voice and agreeable mandler ma manner niler she takes taken a lively interest in womans comans work is president ot of the ladies literary club of salt lake one of the oldest clubs in the west and ex president of the federation of clubs she keeps house in washington but coming very late in the season has not aken much parl pare in social matters she has two sons and four daugh daughters Lers the eldes a pretty girl of sixteen with much musical talent already playing well upon the violin |
