RHODA KHODA ANN christensen LOA wayne county utah april 11 1896 died of pneumonia rhoda ann christensen daughter of thomas and esther bather webb and beloved wife ot of peter petar J christensen born may 8 1860 at moroni sanpete county utah died april pr I 1 10 1896 at lyman wayne county utah t ah deceased was a true and noble mother a devoted and affectionate wife and a faithful latter day saint she leaves a husband lour four children and a large circle of relations and friends to mourn her low the funeral services were held on the instant the lyman school house bouse the room was crowded to overflowing and a large crowd was on the outside side the speakers on the occasion were elders willis W illis E robison Bo bison joseph eckersley hans bans M Hansen Gearson S bastian and james P knight thirty eight vehicles and a number of horsemen followed the body to its last resting place J E ANNETIE J LARSEN CASTLE DALE emery co utah april 22 died at this place april 14 1896 sister annetie johnson larsen wife of C 0 Q G larsen aged 54 years 9 months and 1 day sister larsen lareen was born july 13 1841 in sweden she received tile the gospel at the age of 15 and assisted the elders to spread the truth by keeping house lor for them emigrated to utah in 1861 and for some time lived jived with president youngs family in the lion house IR in 1863 she went on a visit to her sisters who then lived at spring city and fairview respectively while at the former place she became acquainted with bishop io G larsen whom she married in 1864 in 1883 she moved to castle dale emery county where her husband was called to preside overy the emery stake of zion since which time she has ever been a great factor in the relief society as also president of the primary association for about seven years when her health failed and she was unable to perform her duties and was honorably released since then she has been confined to her room and during the last two years much of the time was confined to her bed in 1894 in connection with her husband she went to the manti temple and while there received various precious blessings she dep departed aried this life with a full hope of a glorious resurrection she was ever patient in her afflictions and to the last testified of the goodness of our heavenly father and the truth of the gospel she was waa a kind wife and an affectionate mother and has been blessed with six children two of whom have passed away the remaining ones were at her side to the last of life we join in sympathy with her family cox com orilla LEVITT BROWN BBOWN the funeral services over the remains of sister orilla levitt brown were held at the second ward meeting house wednesday at I 1 april 22 1896 the speakers were bishop edward alex wilkins E C hend head rich richlen dichsen ric hsen men albert jones and john harding who spoke of the good qualities and past life of ane deceased there was a large attendance of sisters from other wards to pay respects to her tilie fahe was laid away to rest followed by the family and friends orilla levitt brown was the daughter of john and lucy levitt she was born february 10 1829 at hatley county sherbrook canada and removed with her parents when nine years old in IM 1838 to kirtland ohio she married Phi philander iander brown on october 13 at cambray hinsdale hillsdale county michigan she was waa the mother ol of one son who died at six weeks of age she was baptized into the Cli church of jesus christ of latter day saints saint in june 1854 at spoon lake council bluffs iowa by elder wm win H folsom and confirmed by him on the same date she emigrated with her husband to utah settling in farmington davis county in 1860 when they were called I 1 o st joseph on the muddy mission suffering a great many hardships while remaining there until the mission was broken up op they then removed to kanab kane county for a short time lime and came to provo in 1878 1873 where they since resided the deceased died monday morning april 20 about 2 ot of pneumonia at the age of 67 years I 1 month and 9 days leaving a loving husband three brothers and three ahree sisters to mourn her departure she filled many po iviona in the relief society and primary associations was a devoted wife true to her religion her faith never faltered and she was always r ready eady to administer to the sick and needy JAMES HARDY SUSAN BRYANT JOHNSON sister susan bryant johnson relict of joel H Joh johnson neou departed this life in colodia diaz mexico on the att ath of april 1896 she was in her year and died of general debility deuced by old age she casborn was born the of august 1812 in the town of virgenes Vir genes state of vermont her parents were natives of new england she was baptized into the church of jesus christ of latter day saints on the of july 1833 she was the only one of her family who received the gospel and in the spirit of the gathering she forsook all and moved to kirtland Kl rlland with the family of harvey strong in the summer of 1836 on the ath of july 1838 she started west with the kirtland camp and shared with them in the persecutions sickness and want which characterized their journey westward while some of the th camp stopped by the way she persevered and arrived in missouri in time to suffer with the saints in their expulsion from froin that state she was removed to quincy ill and soon after went to nauvoo with t the he family of elder heber C kimball she shared the sufferings ot oi her people on the banks of the mississippi river she was married to elder joel H johnson on the of october 1840 and by this act assumed the charge of his live five motherless children after this the family were tossed about by the wave ot of persecution which drove the saints from illinois in may 1848 the family started tor for salt lake valley a journey of over 1200 miles they arrived there the of october 1848 they were in time to share largely in the struggles and privations of toe early settlers of utah in 1851 she removed to iron county southern utah the remainder of her life lie has passed away in pioneering together with her husband and since bis big death with w ith portions of the family first ta in A arizona and then in mexico she spent her last days with her son david W johnson in colonia diaz she was a quiet persevering worker with unflinching fortitude and perseverance her memory will live long in the hearts of those who knew her cox com ELMER TAYLOR died in juab juab county utah of an abscess elmer taylor son of benjamin franklin taylor and ann bennetis Men neils netis born at grafton lorain county ohio november 4 1831 with his parents he came and lived at ramis six miles from carthage ill in 1842 he was acquainted with the prophet joseph and passed through the dobbings mob bings incident to those days having joined the church in early youth he remembered the patriarch hyrum smith preaching in his fathers new barn he emigrated with hia ble parents to utah in 1850 in 1851 was wa called lo io fill a mission to san bernardino cal in company with elders amasa lyman and 0 C rich returned in 1867 1857 and settled in springville Spring ville utah county in 1870 removed to levan juab county and soon alter af ter was called to preside as bishop for seven years then moved to juab and presided as bishop three until about a year ago when he resigned on account of tailing failing health he came and lived in salt ijane city during the summer of 1895 but removed in the fall to his old home at juab and went to work several weeks in the mantl manti temple his health continued to grow worse and he told his family and friends that hla his stay would be short with them for his suffering at times was severe before pawing passing away he called his family together and exhorted them to keep the faith he desired to see hi his son james jamea E who was laboring as a missionary in england and president woodruff kindly cabled president lund to have him released he reached home one week before his fathers death he gave full directions whom he wished to speak at at the funeral also as to the horses that should convey the hearse and his bis family to his last resting place all of which was strictly carried out april 28 at 11 am the cortege left the family residence at J nab juab and at 1 pm they reached the levan chapel where services were conducted by stake president bishop N P john and susan wilbeck Wi WiE ibeck beek martin taylor and elder were the speakers a telegram was read from the presiding bishop condoling with the family all spoke in the highest of the deceased as being an upright man and ot of his integrity for tte work of christ he filled every position with honor and credit the funeral was the largest there has ever been in the county eighty v seven vehicles following to the cemetery many people were in attendance from nephi besides all of levan an juab deceased leaves two wives four sons and six daughters CON COM ELIZABETH KIDMAN PETER petersboro cache co april 23 1896 1 I am sorry to inform you of the death of one of our beloved sisters elizabeth kidman wife of W kidman jr sister kidman kid man was born on september ath 1869 and died on april 1896 after intense suffering lor for several days all that laith faith and prayers and loving hands could do was done but the lords will had lo 10 be done she leaves a husband and seven children the oldest being 11 years old and the youngest a babe of three weeks to mourn her lo 10 loss as besides a large host of relatives and friends she died in full falth faith and fellowship in the gospel and the hope of coming forth in the morning of the first resurrection funeral serviced ser vicea were held in mendon sunday april 19 h president orson smith and isaac smith counselor iu in the presidency of the stake and others were present on the stand bishop hughes highes presided elder prank frank cantrell Cant nell of millville milleville Mill ville was the first speaker said the departed had always lived the life of a lat ter day clay saint spoke of the knowledge which the gospel had given us of loved ones who pass behind the veil if they have lived honorable lives and kept the faith elder eider isaac smith then addressed the congregation he spoke highly of the character obar acter of sister kidman exhorted the family to live near to the lord that they may meet her when they too are called to pass pan behind the voil veil elder lyman a martineau Martl neau then spoke a short time said it is right for us to sympathize with those who upon to mourn in parting with our loved ones he exhorted the husband boac to acknowledge the hand of the lord in this and to bring up his children in the fear odthe ot ahe lord president orson smith spoke a few words of comfort and consolation to the family faintly and friends and all present said we should acknowledge the hand of the lord in all things bishop hughes made a few excellent remarks encouraging all to be charitable towards each other he exhorted brother kidman to live near to the lord and bring up his children in the truths of the gospel elder william kidman sr made a few excellent remarks full of comfort and cheer to those called upon to mourn on this occasion elder willard cranny cranna then made some very verv appropriate remarks speaking highly of the character 0 of sister kidman she was a falth faithful ful latter day saint the choir sang and benediction was offered by counselor A anderson A ELIZABETH BELL BARTON elizabeth bell barton waw was born in the parish of upholland Up holland lancashire england december 21 1814 she wan wait the daughter of william bell and margaret martlew bell her lather father died when she was only 2 years old her mother returned to her native village and her daughter went to live with her grandmother martlew with whom she lived until she was waa married to john barton in IM 1836 the family in 1887 moved from the town of wigan to saint helens helena it was in this town she heard the gospel for the first time in 1841 she was convinced after hearing the first sermon but did not at that time join the church A heavy emigration from the st helens branch in 1842 nearly all the members going to nauvoo left the branch disorganized for some sometime time but she continue 1 however to meet with the saints on june 27 1847 the anniversary of the martyrdom of the prophet joseph and his brother hyrum she was baptized in the river mersey at liverpool for her to wait till this time her home was waa from this time open for the elders who visited the branch and apostles high priests seventies and elders eiders from zion and the home missionaries sion aries were always gladly welcomed in 1860 three of her eldest sons and daughter in law ellen emigrated tv tu zion in 1861 another son followed loll owed and in the remainder of the family father mother three sons dons and one daughter emigrated to zion arriving in salt lake city october ath 1862 they located at kaysville Kays Kay ville eville davis davia county in 1874 two of her sons went on missions to england one in june and another in august in august of this year soon after the departure 01 of her son her husband died this was her first great sorrow in 1876 late in the year her sons william and peter returned from their missions her family now being grown and many married she spent her time lime with them making her home with her son willis william in tor the past eleven years at whose home she died april 19 1896 in her eighty second year her posterity is rapidly becoming n leaving seven sons and one daughter sixty grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren to mourn her departure her mother was the only one who joined the churchlow Church now represented by five generations viz her mother herself sons graild grandchildren children and great grandchildren she considered herself highly honored in having two of her sons called to be bishops another one bishops counselor cou melor and a grandson acting bishop fouron four of her grandsons are now on missions in new zealand samoa switzerland and germany Oer many another grandson named walter died while on a Iniss ionin in th taft southern states she has aone one a good work in the temple for her relative saad friends and received all the blessin blessings gw pertaining to the house of the loril lord she never faltered or wavered in her faith but fet aunch and true she passed gently away not tasting of death she was talking at home with the family when she suddenly placed her hands to her head and exclaimed oh ob avill mv and without a sigh sob or moan her spirit passed gently away with the hope of a 6 glorious resurrection her funeral took place from the eighteenth ward meeting house salt lake and was largely attended the services were conducted by elder robert patrick sen the speakers were elders robert patrick james mcghee bish bishop geo romney elder john 19 and an old friend of the family john S smith of Kay eville six of her sons acted as pall bearers and her only daughter who had been absent nearly twenty years came all the way frow from portland oregon to be present at the funeral seventy of the family were present at the funeral the teachers of relief society |
