Show OVER IN KENTUCKY MUNFORD munfordville VILLE hart county kyj ky june ath 1897 the winter spring and this mum much oft the summer here in kentucky have been very wet and cold and farmers are not yet quite through plowing and plant ing everything seems very backward last year at this time some of the corn was nearly as high as the men who in some places were cu cultivating tiva ting it for the last time laying it by as it is called here the prospects tor for a fairly good crop of corn are yet good provided no early frosts come in the fail to blight atie ripen ing ears v heat and oats look only middling appes peaches and blackberries will soon be very plentiful being the staple fruits ot of the bbate at least among the poor class ot of farmers some farmers sold their corn in the fall for twenty and twenty five cents per pec bushel and are now buying it back for fifty five cents per bushel this comes by living a year ahead ot of a per sons income a serious mistake many of the people here make As near as I 1 can learn very little to bacco has been planted owing to the very low price it has brought for the last few years tobacco raising and using is ruining millions of people bodily mentally and financially I 1 have seen a few children of parents who bacco very heavily who seemed to crave tobacco more than food and could od id would actually eat cat not simply hew ahm the very strongest kind of plug tobacco and thousands ot of children beth bein using the stuff before they are eight years old if the means which is spent annually for drugs tobacco coffee liquor and tea were used for the building and running of good schools and reaching publishing teaching and I 1 ving the everlasting gospel which was revealed through the prophet joseph smith there would soon cease to be work tor for many do dolors clors lawyers saloon men and a vast army ot of revenue officers and stillhouse still house watchers during this spring my companion com and I 1 have baptized
