| Show STROLL ON LONG ISLAND brooklyn july 27 1887 1897 A party arranged by saints and friends at oceanside was a coM complete IDlete success the mhd day dawned with a heavy rain but a m clouds began to brake and the sun came out long to get all together at petits landing where we took sailboat 0 t for a sail on the great south bay friends capt chris miller commanding sail and rudder after sailing about an hour and a half we pulled to shore most of the party crossed a narrow strip of land and strolled along the shores of the atlantic watching the breakers come in picking shells and pebbles on the beach somehow the attendant of a line fine sea breeze and an appetite called us back to boat again and we all partook of IL a sumptuous sump tous spread prepared by the good ladies the aristocracy of new york may well have been proud to have eaten with us lunch cleared away we again sought the beach to ramble on the sand and watch the great waves come in at p m we took the boat and ezied sailed by the large long beach hotel and returned homeward after three and a half hours fine sailing mingled with conversations and songs religious and patriotic we reached the pettit landing where we indulged in a clambake clam bake and ate another good hearty meal again we loaded ourselves into a large farm wagon and sought our eitt homes each feeling blessed and preserved in the days pleasure the party numbered about twenty five among whom were capt millet miller aril amanda pettit daughter and son mr and mrs moat mont pettit and children mr and mrs jerry soper mrs nettie soper and two daughters henry soper and daughter mrs clara gerard and son all of oceanside also mrs groo and daughter of salt lake city mr wood and miss bishop of new haven Conn Elders L B brown ross hamson E burton of brooklyn and D J watts now laboring at oceanside the elders are steadily gaining friends and endeavoring to spread the doctrines of christ among all who will listen prejudice Is gradually subsiding giving more chance for truth any of our friends having relatives here they desire elders to visit can send ad desses to any of the above named elders TURNER |
