The Lady Lancers were bolstered this past season with an OGDEN Highs 4-- A abundance of sophomores and talented ones at that. The young competitors are excited about the future and seem committed to see success come their way. At the meet, the Layton team finished a respectible seventh with 21 points. The most exciting moment for the Layton girls occurred midway through the second day when Jennifer Gooch, Becky Butler, Chaleh Yeates and Corrie Phelts combined together to 440 yard relay. The help win the state championship in the Layton girls had an impressive time of 50.33 to finish ahead of 440-yar- er and captured second place in the all of discus with a toss of which capped off a fairly successful day for the Dart bigman. Major went 4 which was nearly a foot in front of his nearest competitor. Major is another junior who will be back for another year of track. 22-33- r- - - - The mile relay ended up second and the medley relay team from Davis finished third at 3:59.56. Dan Whiting came through for the Darts in the hurdles by posting four points with a fourth in the 1 10 high hurdles and two points with a fifth in the 300 meter intermedi- ates. Major collected a sixth for the Darts in the open 400 meters also. The finest finish among the Lady Darts was in the mile relay where they took third place. Overall the Davis girls ended up in tenth place with 18 points. Lisa Schryver concluded her Davis High career with a fourth place finish in both the long jump (16-- 7 Vi) and the 200 meters (26.64). Butler, a sophomore, actually turned in the finest individual performance of any of the girls. Butler finished third in the hurdles and was sixth in the hurdles. Phelts gave Layton four more points in the 100 meter dash by claiming fourth place. Diane Bates was fifth in the hurdle race also. Zaugg started the day with a fourth place finish in the hurdles (15.69) and teammate Tina Kreimeyer was fifth (15.89). The Falcons netted three more fifth place finishes from RacheUe Clements in the 200 meters, Rhonda Erickson in the high jump and d with relay team. Emily Kreimeyer took sixth in the discus. All in all, Kevin Jamisons crew wound up tied for tenth in the state meet with 19 points. Thats now two years in a row that Jamison has led the Falcons to a tenth or better finish in the state meet. The Lady Falcons fared a little better in the team standings as they finished sixth overall with 23 points, despite having no state champions. Linda Zaugg came the closest to winning a title as she finished second in the hurdles with a time of 45.70. Rachel Han s. Maes was actually leading the race late but caught a hurdle wrong and settled for fifth. Biesecker, who ele- vated himself far above the rest of state track the field in the 1987 and field meet as the senior was clocked at 1 :55.70 in the 800 meters and became a state champion.
