She enrolled in last year's contest at the insistence of her friends, who have long regarded her as an outstanding sewer. To no ones surprise, she won competitions sponsored by the Western South Dakota Wool Growers Auxiliary and the Wool Bureau in Sioux Falls and Belle Fourche. These victories earned her the chance to represent her state in the coveted national finals in Casper, Wyoming, where she competed with top sewers from twelve other Western states. Judges at the finals agreed that dress of her entry a carmen-re100 rc virgin wool crepe reflected the highest proficiency in sewing, and awarded her a special $500 scholarship presented by Colorado Womans College. She Wanted the Chance Now the scholarship is enabling Miss Watson to pursue studies in the field of merchandising. She chose this field while still in high school, and earned graduation credits by working part time in Fantle Brothers, Inc., a leading ImSioux Falls fashion store. store the with her ability, pressed employed her on a full time basis after her graduation. In the store Miss Watson picked up a knowledge of womens styles. With this, say her associates, she combines a natural ability for selecting clothing and accessories, and for planning her wardrobe. And she made no mistake, she declares, in beginning to sew at the age of six; for the skill which won her the valuable scholarship was shaped in her early years. Shes a strong believer in the value of sewing at home.
