"FARM ELECTRIFICATION WEEK Electricity now is available to over 90 per cent of Americas occupied farms. And the nations electric light and power companies are marking the virtual attainment of the first phase of farm electrification with special ceremonies during the week of August 26 to September 1. The story of farm electrification goes back more than 30 years when a few progressive electric companies, manufacturers and some of the older farm organizations began joint studies and research into the possibilities of electricity in agriculture. By 1923 over 200,000 farms were electrified and in 1935, when Federal Rural Electrification was started, this figure had reached 790,000. Today, electricity is available to 4,900,000 of the countrys 5,200,000 occupied farms as a result of the companies and local electric working together.
