Entitled In an English Country Garden, the concert will be held in the Ladies Literary Club in Salt Lake City at 7 p.m. Selections will be sung by Utah Operas Ensemble Artists. A reception sponsored by the Utah Opera Guild follows the concert featuring fare from the British Isles. Admission is $10. First on the program is -- The Magic Circle Mime Company unites with the Utah Symphony on Saturday, March 23, to present The Mozart Experience. An element of the symphonys Youth Series, this performance will be led by assistant conductor Kory Katseanes. The Magic Circle Mime Company was formed in 1977 by Maggie Peterson and Douglas MacIntyre. With backgrounds in both music and theatre, the pair combined both elements to create a unique work in which the orchestra, conductor, and mime company all play as actors and musicians. The Mozart Experience is the story of a mischievous street musician who finds herself thrust into the role of Mozart. The conductor presents her with various opportunities and dilemmas similar to British composers who were followers of Gilbert and Sullivan in the wrote theatreoperetta style of and light music. American composers Cole Porter and the Berlins were in turn influenced by their style of music. Featured soloists will be Karen Early Evans, Robin Murphy, Steven Paul Spears, Frank A. Basile, and Marc Weagraff. Utah Operas principal coach, Paul Dorgan, will preside at the piano.
