Show 4 The Magna Times, Thursday, July 11, 1991 Locals Magna impresses new editor by Necia Palmer Magna Times Editor My first month in Magna was appropriately celebrated with a bang the Independence Day Parade and activities. To be totally honest, I wasnt sure about coming to another little towns Fourth of July celebration. What could it offer compared to my own little hometown parade? Well, in content, not much was different, but in spirit, Magna was all there. From the oldest to the youngest, everyone seemed to be soaking in the sun and good old fashioned fun. Contests, carnival rides, horseshoe throws, some really or hand races in creative foot races and outstanding entersome cases tainment really made celebrating in a new town enjoyable. Thats what the good old American holidays are all about being together and sharing what really counts ... a bit of ourselves. I cant wait to see what happens during Copper Days. Dusty, son of Robin Gurule, ran a whole V mile to win this $20 gift certificate. Im gonna buy a toy, said the boy when asked what a little guy like him was going to do with all that money. Father and son wheelbarrow race teams were the highlight of the day for me. Theres nothing like filial support when it comes to the races that really count in life. cars and, as in the case above, an truck, were some of my favorite parade entries. (Left) The high school dance teams reflected the pride they have in their schools and in themselves. (Far right) Jean Ortons guy out front caught enough attention to bring in the customers to the senior citizens sale. Who could have passed up the dummy? He was covered from head to toe in florescent orange overalls on one of the hottest days of the year. Old-fashion- ed old-fashion- ed Photos by Necia Palmer I e |
