The Shakespeare Acting Workshop for high school and college students is scheduled for July 20-3- 0 and August Instructors are festival actors and staff members, who will train students in voice, mental preparation, and physical movement for performing Shakespeares plays. Coordinators are Arizona teachers Larry Whitesell and Ann Tully. Shakespeare for Teachers runs for both students and August teachers. Dr. Michael Flachmann, Professor of English at California State University, Bakersfield, and Utah Shakespearean Festival dramaturg, is instructor for Shakespeare for Teachers and program director for Camp Shakespeare. In addition, several Elderhostel programs are scheduled throughout the summer for the over-6- 0 population. Some are planned entirely around July. The festival, in cooperation with Southern Utah State College Division of Continuing Education, sponsors several week-lon- g workshops and teacher institutes. Food as Metaphor is one of them. The fee of $250 includes tickets to four plays, the Renaissance Feaste, and a Western Barbeque dinner. Guest speakers from Westminster College, Brigham Young University, Southern Utah State College, and the Utah Arts Council will present information on food in myth, food in film, and food in Shakespeares 3. 4-- 5, plays. Throughout the summer, many groups surround their playgoing with special programs in music, dance, art, acting, and thinking about the Bard. College credit may be earned by anyone who has completed the sophomore year in high school. Teachers may earn credit or credit towards an advanced degree. Other workshops during the summer include the Early Music and Dance directed by Workshop, July 22-2festival music director Jeffrey Snedeker. Experts from across the country gather as faculty for students and performers of Renaissance and Baroque instruments. Vocalists and dancers also have sessions.
