County KIM FOLSOM Magna Times Assistant Editor After a tough battle between Salt Lake County and the city of South Salt Lake over the placement of the new county jail facility in that community , everyone last week was shaking hands and pitching dirt at the groundbreaking. Commissioner Mike Stewart praised Salt Lake County Attorney David Yocom and Sheriff Pete Hayward for their diligence in making the new jail a reality. South Salt Lake City Mayor Jim Davis pledged his cooperation in the new jail effort. He hopes to work the jail into South Salt Lakes overall plan. County Attorney Yocom thanked the commission for their faith in the project. Magna architect Mike Retford of and Associates shows Salt Lake County Attorney David Yocom a rendering of what Oxbow jail will look like after construction is completed. Gilles-Stransky-Bre- The architectural firm of Gilles, Stransky, Brems, and Associates are in charge of designing the facility. Abe Gilles is the principal in charge and Magnas Mike Retford has been the project's manager since the bid was first awarded. Mike Retford also worked on the Gunnison Prison, which is now ready for occupancy, and the Cache County Jail. He feels the firm is a leader in jail construction. Mike is active in Magna he is on the Magna Community Council, the Magna Ethnic and Mining Museum Committee, and the Merchants Redevelopment Association of Historic Magna. He has also worked hard for the Magna Arts Council and for Copper Days. According to Mike Retford, the Oxbow jail was designed for staff efficiency, and a large kitchen and laundry will take care of needs for all the countys jails. The project has been bonded for 12 million dollars but initial costs should run about 9 million. The facility will house mainly misdemeanor offenders with an average stay of about 20 days. The Oxbow jail will have about 360 beds to hold offenders. The facility will do much to help overcrowding at the present downtown jail. Caspari joins Hercules Board of Directors June 27, 1990 Hercules Incorannounced that Manfred porated elected was to the companys Caspari Board of Directors at its regularly scheduled monthly meeting in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Casparis election increases the number of board members to 14. A graduate of the University of Tubingen in the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Caspari, an economist, serves on Hercules European Advisory Board and recently retired as the Director General for Competition, European Economic Community (EEC). During his career with the EEC, Dr. Caspari dealt with internal markets and trade policy as well as antitrust investigations. Prior to his EEC experience. Dr. Caspari worked in the Ministiy of Economic Affairs for the German government. Plan Doubles As Either Two Bedroom or Three Bedroom Designs SYMMETRICAL PLAN BOASTS TRAY CEILINGS AND CEILING FANS BY W.D. FARMER, A.I.B.D. On entrance by way of a wide recessed stoop you are directed to the spaciously sized formal foyer. At this point you may either enter the great room, bedroom wing or the third bedroom that may be used as an overwhelming formal dining room. The breakfast room is fully acceptable to accommodate a large number of guests and is appointed by a bay design projecting to the rear providing added sunlight. There are three full baths, the master bath being the most plush, of course, appointed by a large comer garden tub, separate shower, and duplicate closets and lavatories. Closets are abundant throughout the plan and an extra pantry is shown in the laundry room. The double side entry garage is available to the kitchen from the laundry area. The great room is accented by a tray ceiling, large fireplace, ceiling fan and open rail partition to the foyer. The master bedroom is also highlighted by a tray ceiling and includes a ceiling fan and bay window. The brick exterior is shown with corner quoins, hip roof and multilite shuttered windows. The plan is Number 974. It includes 1,917 square feet of heated space. All W. D. Farmer plans are drawn to meet FHA and VA requirements. For further information write W. D. Farmer, P.O. Holl- ingsworth, Hercules chairman and chief executive officer, said, To plan for the continuing economic unification of Europe, Hercules formed a European Advisory Board in 1989. Magna Water Co. to hold meeting July 10 A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Magna Water Com- pany, an Improvement District, will be held on the 10th day of July 1990, at the hour of 7 p.m. at the districts office, 2711 South 8600 West. This notice was given no less than 24 hours before the date, time, and place of the 10th day of July 1990 meeting of the board and complies with the requirements of the Section 524-- 5 (2) of the Utah Code Annotated by (1) Posting written notice of the meeting at the principal office of the board at the district office and (2) Providing notice to at least one newspaper of general circulation within the geographic jurisdiction of the district.
