Out of the past into the present, he carried on the tradition of the small town shoe For the past repairman. twenty years in the person of Goldy Peterson, the town of Magna has had a cobbler to call their own. When he decided to retire, the son of his old friend took over to carry on the business. Caldwell worked six months with the old shoemaker and repairman learning the tricks of the trade. Goldy mentioned it to he said. my father, So two years ago with the help of relatives, friends and a small business loan I bought him out. Caldwell or the rasp of the grinder can be heard. Or the bearded, aproned cobbler, Lorin Caldwell, himself can be seen leaning aginst the doorjam, resewing a sole on a shoe by hand. Walk in and the darkened interior of the shop is filled with leather materials, footwear, shoe care items, and the hundred and one tools and equipment that can be found in a cobblers place of business. On the walls hang posters advertising a line of boots with scenes and pictures from the old West.
