Show THE AGAINST APOSTLE W ATTEMPT TO CRUSH FREE SPEECH the following is a copy of the indictment in the district court of the third judicial district of the territory of idaho sitting for the trial of causes arising under the constitution and laws of the united states at blackfoot idaho territory october term A D 1886 1 tiem THE UNITED STATES I 1 fl against Ss 88 JOHN W TAYLOR j john johnw W taylor is accused by the grand jury of the united states within and for the third judicial district of idaho territory duly summoned sworn and paneled impaneled im upon their oaths by this indictment lof a felony committed as follows to wit the said john johnw W taylor at oxford in bingham co and within said third judicial district of idaho territory ou on t the ile ti first day of august A D 1886 did unlawfully and feloniously in a discourse then and there by said john W taylor delivered to persons then and there assembled the names of the said persons bein being to the grand jurors unknown counsel counsel advise and direct the said persons assembled as aforesaid and each and every and al ad of them to practice polygamy and unlawful cohabitation an and to live in the practice of polygamy and unlawful cohabitation and to resist disobey disregard and hold at naught the laws of the united states forbidding and making unlawful the practices of polygamy and unlawful awful cohabitation ana 1 I lie he the said john W taylor did ten then and there in the manner and by the means aforesaid unlawfully and feloniously advise urge and incite the people aforesaid assembled as aforesaid to rebel against the authority of the united states against the peace and dignity of the united states and contrary contrady to tile the form force an and d effect of the united states statute in such case made and provided and the grand jurors aforesaid upon their oath aforesaid do further say and cha charge that the said johnw Tay lorat oxford oaf 11 in bingham county idaho territory and wl ien the third judicial district of idaho territory on the da day of august 1886 did unlawfully an and feloniously in a discourse then and there by said john W taylor delivered to persons then and there assembled sem bled the name nalae of the said persons and each of them being to the grand jurors unknown counsel advise and direct the said 3 00 persons assembled as aforesaid and each and every and all ot them to practice polygamy and unlawful cohabitation and to jive ave in t the tie practice ol oi polygamy I 1 and unlawful cohabitation and to 10 resist disobey disregard ami ant hold as naught the laws and catu tea ot 01 the united states forbidding and making unlawful the practices oa 0 polygamy and unlawful cohabitation and he the said john W Taylor did then and there in the manner and hy by the means aforesaid unlawfully and feloniously incite rebellion against the laws of the united states a against the peace and dignity of the cited united states state and contrary contrary iry to the form force and effect of the united states statute in such case made and provided GEORGE HARLAND foreman ot of the said united states grand jury JAMES H HAWLEY U S district attorney for idaho territory names of witnesses examined before the grand jury on finding the foregoing indictment B R J anthony john johnf F harris |
