| Show priesthood MEETING the priesthood eschoo d meeting of the salt bait lake stake of zion was wag held in the assembly Aae embly hall today at 11 am elder angus M cannon president of the stake presided the roll call the following as present pour four high Counci councillors councilors lors four patriarchs Patria robB elders george B wallace and william C Dunbar lof the presidency of the high priests ta quorum twelve of seventies and eleven home missionaries all the bards of the stake were properly depre anted excepting the fifteenth city ward and sugar house mountain dell riverton River toB and herriman harriman of the county bounty wards the first second fourth eighth twelfth fourteenth fifteenth sixteenth seventeenth eighteenth nineteenth twentieth and twenty first quorums of elders were represented by their presiding pre aiding officers upon the recommendation of their respective bishops twelve young men received certificates authorizing their ordination to the office of elder eider ELDER ELDEK ANGUS M CANNON addressed the assembly expressing his bla gratification at the great feast of testimony and instruction enjoyed by the saint during conference and the dedication of the temple ile he hoped that the spirit of union forgiveness and faithfulness in work character characterizing tz this season of refreshing would continue especially among toe bear ers era of the priesthood As ministers officiating in the name of the lord they should be diligent and faithful not hiding biding their talents but using them and increasing them in all good work he referred to an instance where a man acting in a certain capacity in the stake desire to be rell relieved eved of his bis appointment because he felt unable to discharge its duties elder cannon stated that in making this request the individual was pursuing an improper urae for he had taken upon himself the responsibility of a family a and nd by ab shirking irking his duty be was obstructing the channel of communication between himself and the almighty la in rela relation tiou to those dependent upon him ELDER JOSEPH E TAYLOR referred to the approaching season of pleasure seeking and exhorted the brethren to use their influence in the direction of the desecration of the cabbut I 1 i he fit felt too that they should counsel moderation un on the part of the people in seeking utter after pleasure exhorting them to use their energies oner gies in building up the kingdom of god byj ELDER chariles CHAALES W PENROSE pointed out the danger of our allowing the instruction given iu in such meetings as aa th a s to pass pans without profit referring to the ministrations of the elders among the saints h hn said bald that each should strive to ct t the truth or of which gol god is the source in the best pos possible sibie manner one may not be able to present truth in tin an original form he should at least place hims if in such a position that the idoly holy spirit may operate upon him to the end that those to whom he minis may be edified while a man may not figure very prominently iu in public he should see to it that he at least is in the right path for he will thou then ILM be able to direct others there also in answer to a question upon that point eider penrose said that in ordaining a man to any office Z irr in the priesthood the particular office in the priesthood should be named and the blessings of that office whether in the Melchi sedek or the abe conferred we hould should not be too technical minister ing only according to the letter of the law jaw but we should seek its spirit at the same time giving due attention to proper arms and ceremonies cere monlee ELDER BRIGHAM YOUNG addressed the meeting on a variety of subjects counseling the brethren to continued fath in their duties and telling them not to wait for the opportunity of doing some great thing and of performing a clott in behalf of the kingdom of god it is he who performs the little duties of life with faithfulness and diligence who makes his bis mark in this work after further instructions from elder young the meeting adjourned |
