| Show SALT LAKE BOARD OF EDUCATION the board of education met in regular session list last night president nelson in the chair all the member excepting pratt were in attendance A good deal of discussion preceded the reading of an opinion from the board boards s attorney in the mater of the refusal of pike to 10 vote at the last laet meeting the attorney was of vile te opinion that the board did not have the power to compel a member to vote nor to offer rebuke or inflict punishment of any ADY character A refusal to vote was a of duty but the only remedy was in the hands of the voters C newson asked to be employed as engineer and janitor at the jackson school committee on furniture and supplies up plies florence H leavenworth sent in her resignation as assistant teacher iu the lincoln school accepted the salt late building manufacturing company reminded the board that they had bad submitted a bill for extras on the thel lowell jowell building on feb 14 and asked that action be taken on the matter committee on sites and buildings to report at next meeting fisher doran submitted a bill for for plastering the basement of the hamilton school building committee OP sites and george F costerisan sent in a claim of balance due for services rendered in preparing plans and specifications ficat ions for the franklin school committee on sites and buildings on recommendation of the committee on sites and bu buildings illings the bids fir the erection of the oquirrh school building were rejected and the superintendent in of building authorized to put in a concrete foundation lor for school house the cost coat nut not to exceed the committee on sites and buildings reported that a bond had bad been submitted properly signed asking that the assignee of hunsecker r contractors be paid the f buil u il contract price for the erection of the Ff franklin Anklin school building the said bondsmen to bind themselves to rt plaster such portions of the building buil ling Jing ai my be necessary put in transoms lifts and otherwise oom complete the building during the summer vacation the committee WAS of the opinion that this would be an unwise precedent and becom recommended ended that the amount be paid with the exception of ef 2000 provided all sub contractors and mt material erial and men be paid and that there are no outstanding claims against or liens filed on the building the same committee reported that they were in receipt of a communication from the hendy meyer mayer E engineering ugin company and the james spencer bateman baleman company offering for the sum of to rell all claim against the board on vie tie heating and ventilating plans at the and eleventh ward school buildings and surrender the contract fyr for heA heating tinse and venti lanng Jaring the sixteenth ward building filed the committee alo alc reported that a ince the last meeting of the board the tank erected by the hendlmeyer Hendy mayer Meyer engineering company at the bryant school had again collapsed lapsed from the pressure pre asure of the atmosphere and belag the second time within sixty days the committee had bad directed direct fd the of buildings to prevent the eaid company from placing any tank in toe the said building that would not resist the pressure of the atmosphere and asked viat their action be approved adopted the committee on teachers and school work recommended as follows fol lowe that all ail teachers who are under temporary employ employee empl jyme me t in the school but not under contract be reported report eu each mouth month by the a special payroll for that mat purpose aud and which includes ino ludes an oath to be sub aub inscribed to by such teachers that the services have been rendered and the amount stated is correct that the following teachers be employed employ fed at the salaries per mouth month and at the places laces named and that contracts be entered into with them for the bal baunee stice of tile the school term flora irwin tenth school 65 charlotte fowler hamilton school 65 gone gene kimball see bec ond 50 marion lewis fifth school 70 that a piano for forbie use in the high school secured be oe during the rest of the term at a cost not to exceed 12 for the purpose of training pupils cupili to sing fir tile the commencement exercises connected with the graduating class that 25 be appropriated for the purpose of constructing color charts for use in III all schools adopted appropriations aggregating were made after which the board adjourned fir two weeks |
