Show BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING the city school board met last night president nelson in the chair all the members were present and business was transacted as follows As to the revised specifications for the oquirrh school building bids were opened as follows fol lowe salt bait lake building manufacturing company complete if kyune ayune stone is used the price will be extra A hensgen complete according to the revised specifications committee on sites and buildings E STREET SEWER the committee on sites and buildings recommended that the clerk be authorized zed to advise the city council and the city engineer that the board would enter no objection to the extension of the sewer lateral constructed by it oa 01 E street or to any connection therewith made by abutting property owners providing the tax be paid and refunded to the board the connections to be made lu in accordance with the rules of 4 the council adopted MORE SCHOOL BUILDINGS NEEDED the commatee comm itee on site bite and buildings reported chatin that in addition to the building completed those io in progress of construction st at and those for which the contracts are about to be let jet that other 8 grade rade schools are needed as aa urgently as was the ne need ed of any of the buildings to wit an eight room building at the head of main street or a block east of west of that locality an eight room building in the tenth ward a twelve room building in the fourth ward or the lower portion of the seventh wara to accommodate the fourth and seventh wards and the eastern portion of the fifth ward west of the river and in the newly annexed district and in north salt lake committee on finance miscellaneous REPORT the 0 camittee on OB teachers and school work reported that a class of ten pu pupils pils will complete the course of study in the high school and be ready for graduation in june jane and made the following that authority be given to secure the tabernacle it possible in which to hold bold the commencement that the committee commit eee be authorized to contract for diplomas for the high school graduates that the school close on june ath instead of this year owing to the fact that the christmas vacation only lasted one week instead of tw two that the superintendent f schools be authorized to furnish the united states commissioner of aduca tiou with a statement of tabt t school population tea teachers cheras atten attendance daucie ac etc lor bior the purpose of placing same beside other such exhibits from dif frent cities of the west and that a letterhead letter head be especially prepared for this purpose with an engraving upon it of our lea aing school buildings the cost not dot to exceed 3 for the engraved block that the franklin school had bad opened with all the rooms fairly well filled and two of thew them greatly overcrowded in view of this they recommended in order to avoid the overcrowding of the third grade the transferring of a requisite number of pupils to the fourteenth school where there are two tiro rooms in 1 which the attendance Is ig less leea than the rooms will accommodate and that the superintendent bi be authorized to adjust the attendance between these several schools so ao as to cause as little inconvenience veni vents ence uce as aa possible sible also that the southwest basement bae ement room in the fourteenth building be opened reopened re as an ad dit ional room to accommodate the overflow from the lincoln and franklin ech schools EC bools adopted the committee on teachers and school work reported in the matter of the complaint of miss emily butt that she had been dismissed without due notice as follows miss batt was employed employ eJ in september last by the board to teach until the hopeni g of the lincoln school at which time the board reserve servel re 1 the right to make new arrangements with her and that in accordance with such reserved right ner her em employment ploy ment terminated december the letter ot of miss mis batt re erred by your honorable body nas has been considered by us it is ap patently parent ly abaied on a partly pardy executed contrast contra on tract ot which does not express the will wili of this boaro board nr the action authorized by it ir of which she has no duplicate and which the clerk did not sign alien nor was it vereil we lee e no propriety in giving force
